Celebrate Freedom

  • Date: Monday, July 3, 2017 from 5-9:15pm
  • Location: Chesapeake City Park, 900 Greenbrier Parkway, Chesapeake, VA 23320
  • Description: Celebrate America's Birthday with the U.S. Army TRADOC Band from Fort Eustis, VA, providing stirring patriotic sounds. Following the concert, fireworks by Pyrotechnico will illuminate the dark sky after sunset. Parks, Recreation, and Tourism also will present the best in children's activities and family entertainment: face painting, 3 years and under play area, giant lawn games, inflatables and much more. The Chesapeake Public Art Committee will be on hand spreading awareness and taking donations for the Chesapeake 9/11 Memorial. Chesapeake ArtsAlive will offer a silent auction of fun, summer gift baskets to support Chesapeake students in the arts. A variety of "food vendor" concessions will also be available for an evening picnic. Bring your own chairs or blanket. (Pop-up Tents not permitted)

  • Date: Tuesday, July 4, 2017 from 10am-4pm
  • Location: Lakeside Park, 1441 Bainbridge Blvd, Chesapeake, VA
  • Description: Enjoy a 4th of July tradition in Chesapeake! The event features a parade, entertainment, food, games, paddleboat rides, children's crafts and family fun! The parade steps off at 10am and the picnic is from 11am - 4pm.
  • Cost: Free and open to the public



Fourth at the Fort at Fort Monroe

  • Date: Tuesday, July 4, 2017 from 10am-9:45pm
  • Location: Fort Monroe, VA 23651
  • Description: Beaches open to the public. At 10am enjoy a patriotic flag ceremony, at the Flagstaff Bastion inside the stone fort. The program will include participants in period attire, a salute volley, and live period music. Casemate Museum is open from 10:30am – 4:30pm (Free Admission). Family Fun in the Wherry Quarter from 6 to 8:30pm. Music by the Bay Summer Concert at Wherry Quarter at 7 pm. Fireworks at 9:15pm.

"Spirit of America" Laser Lights Show at Abbitt Planetarium 

  • Date: Tuesday, July 4, 2017 from 5-10pm
  • Location: Virginia Living Museum 524 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601
  • Description: “Spirit of America” mixes great patriotic music with America-inspired rock & roll and songs that have defined American music. Light shows at 5, 6, 7, 8, & 9pm
  • Cost: $3 VLM members, $6 non-members

4th of July Stars In The Sky 

  • Date: Tuesday, July 4, 2017 from 7-10pm
  • Location: Victory Landing Park, 50 26th Street, Newport News, VA 23605
  • Description: Free children’s rides (giant slides, moon bounces, obstacle courses), free face painting, the Tomcats Dixieland Band (performing near the Newport News Victory Arch), and strolling entertainment. Food vendors will be on site selling a variety of items including funnel cakes, hot dogs, hamburgers, and frozen treats. Entertainment will be provided by The United States Air Force Heritage of America Band “The Blue Aces” from 7-9:30pm. A spectacular fireworks show will light up the sky over the James River at 9:30 p.m.

Independence Day Celebration & Fireworks 

  • Date: Friday, June 30, 2017 from 6-9:30pm
  • Location: Ocean View Beach Park Norfolk, Virginia 23503
  • Description: The TGOV Beach Music Concert Series is a great way to start the weekend with Live Music, children's activities, food, beverages and more. Fireworks at 9:30pm.
  • Cost: Free and open to the public


Norfolk Tides Baseball Game

  • Date: Saturday & Monday, July 1 & 3, 2017. Game starts at 7:05pm 
  • Location: Harbor Park Stadium, Park Avenue, Norfolk, VA
  • Description: Stay after the game for FIREWORKS! 
  • Cost: Included with game admission
  • Date: Tuesday, July 4, 2017 from 12-3pm
  • Location: TowneBank Fountain Park, Norfolk VA
  • Description: Starting in TBFP and then Trail ride (prizes for best dressed/decorated bike)


The 35th Annual AT&T Fourth of July Great American Picnic & Fireworks 

  • Date: Tuesday, July 4, 2017 from 5-10pm
  • Location: TowneBank Fountain Park within Town Point Park, Waterside Drive, Norfolk, VA 23510
  • Description: Leave the grilling to us on the 4th of July and bring your family and friends down to Town Point Park. Guests can buy traditional all-American fare, including hot dogs, hamburgers, barbecue, seafood, buttered corn on the cob, juicy watermelon, lemonade... with all the fixin's and much more available for purchase! Relax on the lawn and enjoy the live entertainment, then watch as the sky lights up with the fireworks display at 9:30pm!

  • Description: Learn about life on the home front in World War II Portsmouth. Sign up to become a W.A.V.E., and check out the swing dancing!

  • Description: Come join the Cradock Civic League and the Community to start your 4th of July celebration.

  • Description: Join us for a free patriotic concert, saluting the 250th Anniversary of the NNSY featuring the Tidewater Concert Band and stay for the fireworks immediately following the concert.

  • Location: Constant's Wharf Park and Marina, 110 E. Constance Road, Suffolk, VA 23434
  • Description: Enjoy the Stars and Stripes Spectacular, as the skies of Suffolk light up with the firework show over the Nansemond River at Constant's Wharf Park & Marina. The park will open at 5:30pm with entertainment, children's activities, local merchandise vendors and food choices available. The firework show will begin at 9 p.m., for the whole family to enjoy! 
  • Cost: Free admission, $5 for kids area activities (ages 12 and under). There will be free shuttles from the First Baptist Church, Godwin Courts, and City Hall parking lots beginning at 5:15

July 4th Celebration at Mt Trashmore

  • Date: Tuesday, July 4, 2017 from 4-10pm
  • Location: Mount Trashmore Park, 310 Edwin Drive Virginia Beach, VA
  • Description: Celebrate with your friends and family at our annual July 4th Celebration at Mount Trashmore Park! Fireworks begin at 9:30 pm. Admission is free. Food and drinks available for purchase. 
  • Cost: Free admission, limited parking for $10
  • Date: Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at from 7-8:30pm
  • Location: On the Pond at the intersection of Sandbend and Back Bay Crescent, Sandbridge
  • Description: This year’s theme, The Fourth of July and What it Means to Us, provides unlimited opportunities for decorating your boat. Boats are asked to gather in Osprey Bay (Teal Crescent) before the starting time of 7pm. Reader Feedback (thanks Amanda): The boat parade can not be seen from public spaces on land, just from private homes along the water. It is best viewed by boat on the water.

Yorktown Fourth of July

  • Date: Tuesday, July 4, 2017 from 8-10am and 7-9:15pm 
  • Location: Yorktown Waterfront, Yorktown VA
  • Description: 8k/5k and parade in the morning followed by the Sounds of Liberty bell ringing ceremony, US Army TRADOC Brass Band and Fireworks 
  • Cost: Free

  • Date: Tuesday, July 4, 2017 from 9am-6pm
  • Location: American Revolution Museum, Route 1020 in Yorktown, near Yorktown Battlefield
  • Description: Visitors can enjoy music, interpretive programs, military drills and artillery demonstrations, and learn about the challenges that faced our nation’s founders, including those who signed the Declaration of Independence.
  • Cost: Admission to the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (until 6 p.m. June 15-August 15), is $12.00 for adults and $7.00 for ages 6-12. Children under 6 are free. Admission is free for residents of York and James City counties and the City of Williamsburg, including College of William and Mary students, with proof of residency.
