Although infants and toddlers learn and grow at their own pace, early childhood development often follows predictable patterns. Skills such as taking a first step, smiling for the first time, and waving “bye-bye” are called developmental milestones. Children reach milestones in how they play, learn, speak, act and move (crawling, walking, etc.)
For any number of reasons, many young children need a little extra help to reach certain developmental milestones. And since infants and toddlers grow and learn so quickly, it’s important to get that extra help as early as possible if you or your child’s doctor have any concerns about your child’s development. Early identification and intervention can make a difference!
The Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia provides supports and services for infants and toddlers, and their families so that families can help their children learn during everyday activities and routines. These supports take place in the child’s natural environment, such as their home, daycare, or even the local library.
If you are concerned about your child’s development, the first step is to contact the Infant & Toddler Connection in your area. They will schedule an intake and evaluation to determine if your child is eligible for services. This is provided at no cost to families.
If your child is eligible, we will work with you to identify the goals that you have for your child and what services we will provide to help you help your child reach those goals. This will be outlined in your family’s Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). Developing the plan is also provided at no cost. Your family will be assigned a Service Coordinator, at no cost to you, to help you navigate through the program.

A nonprofit dedicated to minimizing trauma in children and strengthening families. Providing parent advocacy services in CPS cases, resource and referral, and are launching a shared housing program to provide safe and affordable shelter.
Utilizing culturally competent education, resources and mentorship, we support attachment and bonding within the family system in order to reduce involvement with the child welfare system, increase parental confidence and capacity, and produce improved educational and social outcomes for all children.
Nature-based preschool movement classes, physical therapy and wellness consults.
Held in Virginia Beach, VA and surrounding areas, these nature-based outdoor classes (“Nature Wigglers”) will focus on gross and fine motor movement with a nature or outdoor theme each week. These classes will be geared towards ages 2-6 of all abilities and held at a variety of locations in the region. Siblings under the age of 2 are free to tag along. Special Education Advocates meet with parents of students with disabilities to assist them with navigating through the school system to determine an appropriate education program which will meet their child’s needs. The Advocate will provide assistance and education with the Individualized Education Plan, (IEP) or 504 Plan. The goal of Marage Homes is to help parents become self-advocates so that their child(ren) will stay in school and reach their educational goals.
