4-H is the youth (ages 5 to 19) development education program of Virginia Cooperative Extension. 4-H is rich with learning experiences where young people partner with caring adults and volunteers in a fellowship unlike any other program available to youth today. During the summer, 4-H offers a range of day and residential (overnight) camps.

Brave New School summer camp was beyond fun for my 2.5 year old. There are not many programs that can provide the outdoor experience they do at the Brave New School. Brien and Amy are very welcoming to all and very engaged with the group. Photos are uploaded throughout the day which is greatly appreciated by parents. We will definitely be back each year!

Brave New School has helped my 5 year old grow so much. When he first started their program he didn't want to participate in activities or try new foods. Now he is one of the first ones to volunteer for certain tasks and even eats foods he always refused previously. He has shared some of the mindfulness tactics that are utilized. Behaviorally, they have helped so much. My child has even begged to stay longer for meditation. He loves going there and gets disappointed when he isn't able to go. They let children be children. Learning is play-based and developmentally appropriate.

We have 3 kids enrolled in the hybrid options and have nothing but positive things to say. Our kids enjoy the outdoor all weather aspects and want nothing more than to be with their friends each day. The teachers and staff truly care for the children and their individual paths to learning.

I am so thankful to have come across this program!

As a first-time mom, I’ve had a lot of anxiety about leaving my son with anyone else. Finding this program has been such a gift. I was nervous about how he would adjust, but the care, structure, and support we've both received have been incredible. The transition was much easier than I expected, and my son has been thriving—he’s happy, engaged, and having so much fun. I truly couldn’t ask for a better experience.

Both of my sons attend Brave New School and we feel so fortunate to have found them! It’s such a welcoming community and an environment that truly allows children to be children. They encourage self expression and emotional regulation which is such an under developed skill in most people. They also use creative means to teach so the kids aren’t sitting at a desk for 7 hours a day! They are outside and living while learning.

Youth martial arts ages 4+. Summer camps available.

Camp Loud provides a nurturing therapeutic environment for children ages 5-16.

The program will offer a step by step process that will support and empower individuals to embrace creative ways of learning while engaging in “Mindful Habits for Kids” education and learning how to build healthy relationships and strengthening socialization skills while referencing familiar movies.

Hands-On Exhibits, Activities and Events. Birthday Parties, Summer Camps and Homeschool Programs are available. Planetarium. Sensory-Friendly Hours are regularly scheduled.

The Community Outreach Coalition is a nonprofit organization that ministers to low-income youth and children with disabilities through academics, athletics, and the arts. Childcare, preschool, before/after care, tutoring, summer camps, science programs, athletics, cooking classes, dance and step, performing arts, vocal lessons & more.

Prek 3 and 4 and Kindergarten. Before/After Care, and summer camp programs are available.

The Hampton Roads Chess Association (HRCA) is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to bringing the benefits of chess to people of all ages and abilities across our region. Serving youth and adult competitive chess players, schools, the handicapped, the elderly, veterans, and Scouts. Ongoing chess programs, instruction, groups and Summer camps available.

Skateboard classes and a Summer Skateboard Camp for kids 7-14 years old who are interested in learning the fundamentals of skateboarding safely. Homeschool classes may be available.

Horizons Hampton Roads inspires young minds through proven summer enrichment programs where low-income children are challenged academically, socially and physically to meet with greater successes in school and in life and are rewarded with gains on academic testing and grow in confidence.

Norfolk, Portsmouth, & Virginia Beach Public school students in grades K-8 who qualify for free/reduced lunch are encouraged to apply for Horizons through their guidance counselor.

Kojack's Baseball Academy trains youth of all ages in all baseball skills via individual or group lessons. We are the home for the KBA baseball organization and we rent out space for teams to train in a safe and professional environment.

We offer private lessons, team rentals, spring/fall baseball teams, and summer camps. All private lessons are based in a private or group environment, where your child will train with a coach who has the ability to take your ball player to the next level. Parties available.

Boxing (UGMMA) - Universal General MMA acknowledge the tough issues children and young adults face, both in and out of school. Our Stand Tall initiative is a program that focuses on building self-esteem. Universal General MMA builds self-esteem through exercise and mentor-ship. children with higher self-esteem are less bullied. Furthermore, mentored students with high self-esteem are less likely to get into a fight.

Law Enforcement Explorer - Law Enforcement Exploring is a hands-on program open to young men and women who have completed the 6th grade through 20 years old, interested in a career in law enforcement or a related field in the criminal justice system. The program offers young adults a personal awareness of the criminal justice system through training, practical experiences, competition and other activities. Additionally, the program promotes personal growth through character development, respect for the rule of law, physical fitness, good citizenship and patriotism.

After School - The Portsmouth Parks & Recreation in partnership with Portsmouth Police Athletic League (PPAL) After School Program is designed to provide Portsmouth’s youth with a safe environment while participating in a wide variety of educational and recreational opportunities.

PAL Summer camp is hosted by the Portsmouth Police Department. Includes Fun Daily Activities, Weekly Field Trips, Lessons on Crime Prevention, Bullying, and more. This camp is only open to Portsmouth residents ages 5-13.
