As summer weather heats up the water turns on all over Hampton Roads. Of course, you can always visit the beach for water fun, but if you have had enough of sand and surf there are a few other options for you!

Chesapeake

Great Bridge YMCA – Indoor Pool, Indoor Slide, Outdoor Infant Wading Pool, Outdoor Pool, Outdoor Splash Park. Membership or Guest Pass required. Local residents who are not members may access the Y by using a day pass up to three times per year at a cost of $10/visit. YMCA outdoor pools OPEN Memorial Day weekend for the 2026 season!

Greenbrier Family YMCA – Indoor Pool, Outdoor Infant Wading Pool, Outdoor Pool, Outdoor Splash Park. Membership or Guest Pass required. Local residents who are not members may access the Y by using a day pass up to three times per year at a cost of $10/visit. YMCA outdoor pools OPEN Memorial Day weekend for the 2026 season!

Taylor Bend YMCA – Indoor Pool, Outdoor Pool, Outdoor Splash Park. Membership or Guest Pass required. Local residents who are not members may access the Y by using a day pass up to three times per year at a cost of $10/visit. YMCA outdoor pools OPEN Memorial Day weekend for the 2026 season!

Western Branch Community Center – Outdoor Splash Park. 2026 Opening Day: Saturday, May 23rd.
Day Pass ($10) or Membership required – Free with community center membership or day pass for individuals 8 and over. Children 7 and under are eligible to use the splash park with a parent or guardian who has a center membership. No more than 3 youth (under 8) permitted per adult (18-plus).

Hampton

Hampton Aquaplex – Indoor 50m & 25m pools and outdoor splash park. Membership or day pass required. 2026 day pass rates $8-$12 depending on age/residency, Season passes are available for residents and non-residents. Splashdown Park has two waterslides, a 3.5ft depth lazy river with a jetted bench area, play pool featuring a zero-depth entry and a play structure.

Outdoor splash park opens for the 2026 Season on May 23rd and follows the posted schedule.

• Beginning May 23: Saturday – Sunday 11 AM – 7 PM (Holiday Hours: Memorial Day 11 AM – 6 PM)
• May 26 – June 10: Monday – Friday 3 PM – 7 PM
• June 11 -August 21: Monday – Friday 11 AM – 6 PM
• August 24 – September 4: Monday – Friday 3 PM – 7 PM (Holiday Hours: Labor Day 11 AM – 6 PM)

Fort Monroe Community Center Indoor Pool – Daily Admission (members): Youth $1, Adult $1.50. Daily Admission (non-members): Youth $3, Adult $3.50. Membership/Monthly passes also available.

Outdoor Neighborhood Pools in Hampton – open seasonally and membership is required. See Information on upcoming Free Community Pool Days Here.

Peninsula Town Center Fountains – open seasonally – currently closed until further notice – no posted update for 2026 – for FREE summer water play for ages 0-12. Located in the Town Square of Peninsula Town Center.

Newport News

Brittingham-Midtown Aquatics Center – Indoor pool with onsite lessons and open family swim sessions. Day Pass (NN Resident) is $3 for Youth/Senior and $4 Adults. Day Pass (Non-Resident) is $5 Youth/Senior and $6 Adults. Children 3 and under are free. Longer length passes are also available for purchase.

Joint Forces Langley-Ft Eustis Aquatic Center (Military/DOD, must have base access)
Indoor water park and pool on Ft Eustis – Reservations are required. Daily admission rates: Active Duty $2/Retired & Dependents $3/Others $5. Monthly and longer-term rates also available.
Outdoor Pool: Opening soon for the 2026 Season.

Tom & Ann Hunnicutt Family YMCA – Indoor pool and Spray Park. Membership or Guest Pass required. Local residents who are not members may access the Y by using a day pass up to three times per year at a cost of $10/visit. 

Norfolk

Kroc Center Hampton Roads – Kroc Center Aquatics Center is an indoor pool that includes Lap lanes, a lazy river, two-story water slide and splash zone. Included in membership. Membership required (Flex-Rate Membership may be available). For more updates and schedule of the Aquatics Center please check link above.

Norfolk Botanical Garden – WOW Children’s Garden

Norfolk Botanical Garden–  Fountains are ON for the 2026 season – Check for updates here. Located within the WOW Children’s Garden the fountains come on seasonally for summertime water play. Free with Garden admission. Shoes are required.

Norfolk Parks & Recreation has a variety of Indoor & Outdoor Pools available. Locations with free admission or play structures are listed below:

• Norview Splash Pad–  Outdoor Splash Pad. Free & Open to the public at Norview Community Center – 6380 Sewells Point Road, Norfolk VA. Operates seasonally. Currently out of service – no 2026 update has been posted.
• Shoop Park Splash Pad – Outdoor Splash Pad – (Open seasonally June – August): No specific update posted for 2026. Free and open to the public on a seasonal basis.
• Southside Aquatics Center Indoor Swimming Pool – Indoor pool with diving board, twisty tube slide, zero depth recreation and instruction area with play structures. Membership required.

TowneBank Fountain Park/Waterside– Interactive water fountain entertains visitors with daily performances of 28 water jets shooting water up to 12 ft into the air and enhancing its nighttime performances with illumination. Open seasonally – no updates for 2026.

Virgina Zoo – water fountains (including Fountain Plaza) are turned on seasonally for water play. Fountain Plaza is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Water fountain play is Free with paid Zoo admission.  Fountains will be turned off during inclement weather. Call to confirm.

YMCA on Granby – Outdoor Pool, Outdoor Water Slides. Membership or Guest Pass required. Local residents who are not members may access the Y by using a day pass up to three times per year at a cost of $10/visit. YMCA outdoor pools OPEN Memorial Day weekend for the 2026 season!

Portsmouth 

Cavalier Manor Outdoor Pool – $1 admission. Glass containers, food and drinks (bottled water excluded) are not permitted. Large groups are encouraged to call ahead due to limited capacity. Proper swimming attire required. Open Memorial Day – Labor Day: Tuesday – Sunday 1pm- 4pm

Effingham Street YMCA – Outdoor Infant Wading Pool, Outdoor Pool. Membership or Guest Pass required. Local residents who are not members may access the Y by using a day pass up to three times per year at a cost of $10/visit. YMCA outdoor pools OPEN Memorial Day weekend for the 2026 season!

Norfolk Naval Shipyard (Military/DOD, must have base access)
Splash Zone Aquatics Center has an outdoor swimming pool and splash pad located at Scott Center Annex across from The Navy Exchange in Portsmouth. The pool is open seasonally from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day each. Hours of operation are based on lifeguard availability. 2026 schedule: May 23 – June 14: Saturday & Sunday only 10am-6pm. Beginning Tuesday, June 16 Open Tuesday – Sunday from 10am-6pm. Closed Mondays.

Portsmouth Splash Park – Splash Park – Open seasonally, Admission is free. Glass containers, food and drinks (bottled water excluded) are not permitted. Suffolk

Cypress Park Pool – Outdoor Pool – Opening in June 2026 for the season. A pool pass is required for all Open Swim visitors. Passes are free for ages 10+. Children 9 and under must be accompanied by and adult.
Note: Pool passes are not available at the pool but you can get one at Parks & Rec Admin office, Bennetts Creek Rec Center, East Suffolk Rec Center, Milteer Rec Center. Cypress Park Pool offers open swim, swimming lessons for youth ages 5-17, group swim times, and party rentals by pre-paid reservations.

Suffolk Family YMCA – Indoor Pool, Outdoor Pool, Outdoor Splash Park. Membership or Guest Pass required. Local residents who are not members may access the Y by using a day pass up to three times per year at a cost of $10/visit. YMCA outdoor pools OPEN Memorial Day weekend for the 2026 season!

Virginia Beach

Atlantic Park Surf – Outdoor surf park  – OPEN for the 2026 Season. Offering a surf lagoon beach area, surf sessions and lessons. Lagoon access starts at $10 per person/day. Cabanas are available beginning at $200. Surf lessons and experiences range from $119 – $151 per session.

Joint Forces Little Creek-Fort Story’s Gator Water Park (Military/DOD, must have base access) – Open May 23 – June 14, 2026: Saturday & Sunday only 11am-4pm. Beginning Tuesday, June 16, 2026: Open Tuesday – Sunday from 11am-4pm. Closed Mondays. Water park open to military on the JEB Little Creek-Fort Story Base. Daily admission rates: $10 daily visit – for active duty, retirees, Reservists and eligible family members. $12 daily visit – for DoD and guests. Guests are limited to two per eligible sponsor. Single Sailors, E-1 to E-6 active duty military admitted are free. Children ages two and younger are free.

Larkspur Swim & Racquet Club – Outdoor pool (summer membership required) open to all neighborhoods. Open swim and Swim team available. Opens Memorial Day for 2026 season.

Mount Trashmore YMCA – Indoor Pool, Outdoor Pool, Outdoor Splash Park, and an Infant Wading Pool. Membership or Guest Pass required. Local residents who are not members may access the Y by using a day pass up to three times per year at a cost of $10/visit. YMCA outdoor pools OPEN Memorial Day weekend for the 2026 season!

Ocean Breeze Water Park– an extensive world of water fun with play areas for the little ones and wave pools, slides and other attractions for the adults and older kids. Opens May 16th for the 2026 season. Paid admission. Season passes available. 2026 Weekday Admission $38.99 – $48.99 | Weekend Admission $44.99 – $56.99 | ages 2 and under are free. Military and senior discounts are available. Late admission discounts after 4pm may be available. Check for current discounts here!

Oceana’s Aeropalms Water Park (Military/DOD, must have base access) – Water park open to military on the Oceana Naval Air Station Base. Weekends only Memorial Day – June 15th: 11am to 5pm. Starting June 16 – Labor Day: Open Wednesday through Monday 11am to 5pm. Closed Tuesdays. Daily entry is $10 for active duty, Reservists, dependents, and retirees and $12 for DoD civilians and guests. Ages 3 and under are free. Season passes are also available.

Princess Anne Family YMCA – Indoor Pool, Indoor Splash Park. Membership or Guest Pass required. Local residents who are not members may access the Y by using a day pass up to three times per year at a cost of $10/visit. YMCA outdoor pools OPEN Memorial Day weekend for the 2026 season!

Simon Family JCC – Outdoor Pool

Simon Family JCC – Outdoor Pool and Splash Park opens for the season May 23, 2026. Indoor Pool and Therapy Pool open year round. Membership or Guest Pass required. Residents who are not members may access the JCC with a day pass from the front desk. (Adults $14, Kids $10, Under 3 Free.)

Virginia Beach Parks & Rec Pools – in addition to the water playgrounds at Bow Creek, Kempsville, and Williams Park, the other recreation centers have pools that give lessons and have open swim sessions. Must be a member or purchase a day pass.

• Bow Creek Recreation Center – Indoor pool with zero depth entry, lap lanes, deep water area with slide and a children’s area with slide and play features. Must be a VBPR member or purchase a day pass.
• Level Green Park Sprayground – New in 2026 opening Memorial Day Weekend. Spray ground open to all ages. Children 8 and under must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Open 9am to sunset from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Weekends only in May & September. Sprayground opens only when the air temperature is 75°F or higher.
• Kempsville Recreation Center – Indoor pool with zero-depth entry, six 25-meter lap lanes, two 1-meter diving boards, aqua track, leisure pool and water play components. Must be a VBPR member or purchase a day pass.
• Williams Farm Park Sprayground and Indoor Water Playground– A water play area (sprayground outdoors, water slides/play indoors) located at the Williams Farm Park Recreation Center. Must be a member or purchase a day pass. Outside sprayground opens for the season May 23, 2026.

YMCA at JT’s Camp Grom – YMCA at JT’s Camp Grom offers: Adaptive Swim Lessons, Family Days, Youth Sports and more. YMCA outdoor pools OPEN Memorial Day weekend for the 2026 season!

Williamsburg 

Great Wolf Lodge – Indoor water park featuring pools, rides and water slides with fun for all ages. Admission to water park included with resort stay. Admission varies by dates/package. Current Discounts are posted HERE.
