As summer weather heats up the water turns on all over Hampton Roads. Of course, you can always visit the beach for water fun, but if you have had enough of sand and surf there are a few other options for you!

Chesapeake

Great Bridge YMCA – Indoor Pool, Indoor Slide, Outdoor Infant Wading Pool, Outdoor Pool, Outdoor Splash Park. Membership required. Outdoor pools are OPEN for the 2022 season.

Greenbrier Family YMCA – Indoor Pool, Outdoor Infant Wading Pool, Outdoor Pool, Outdoor Splash Park. Membership required. Outdoor pools are OPEN for the 2022 season.

Taylor Bend YMCA – Indoor Pool, Outdoor Pool, Outdoor Splash Park. Membership required. Outdoor pools are OPEN for the 2022 season.

Western Branch Community Center – Outdoor Splash Park. Day Pass or Membership required.

• June 21 – September 3, 2022: Open Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., and 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Closed Sundays and Mondays.

Hampton

Hampton Aquaplex: OPENING late Summer 20202! – This state-of-the-art aquatics center will provide more recreational opportunities for the community with a 50-meter pool, a 25-yard pool and an outdoor splash park.

Indoor Parks & Rec Community Pools in Hampton – Fort Monroe Community Center Pool and Hampton Aquatics Center are open for a variety of swim programs. Daily Admission (members): Youth $1, Adult $1.50. Daily Admission (non-members): Youth $3, Adult $3.50. Monthly passes also available.

Outdoor Neighborhood Pools in Hampton – open seasonally and membership is required. See Information on Free Community Pool Days Here.

Peninsula Town Center Fountains – open seasonally – currently closed until further notice – for FREE summer water play for ages 0-12. Located in the Town Square of Peninsula Town Center.

Newport News

Brittingham-Midtown Aquatics Center – Pool with onsite lessons and open family swim sessions. Day Pass (NN Resident) is $3 for Youth/Senior and $4 Adults. Day Pass (Non-Resident) is $5 Youth/Senior and $6 Adults. Children 3 and under are free. Longer length passes are also available for purchase.

Denbigh Community Center – splash pad on-site at the entrance of the community center.

Doris Miller Community Center- open seasonally (mid June through the summer) for FREE (Newport News residents). The Doris Miller Pool includes a pool area and spray play area. Zero depth beach entry with a maximum depth of five feet. The pool has geyser sprays, animal sculpture sprayers, a spray tunnel, a 9’11” tube slide, and spa jet seating area. A valid pool pass is required.

Tom & Ann Hunnicutt Family YMCA – Indoor pool and Splash Pad. Membership required.

Norfolk

Kroc Center Hampton Roads – Kroc Center Aquatics Center includes Lap lanes, a lazy river, two-story water slide and splash zone. Included in membership. Membership or pass required. For more updates and schedule of the Aquatics Center please check link above.

Ocean View Water Slide – No information posted for Summer 2022. Located at the OV Fishing Pier the water slide is open seasonally, daily from 11am-7pm weather permitting. Tickets can be purchased at the bait shop.

Norfolk Botanical Garden–  Fountains are ON for the 2022 Summer season. Located within the WOW Children’s Garden the fountains come on seasonally for summertime water play. Free with Garden admission. Shoes are required.

Norfolk Parks & Recreation Indoor & Outdoor Pools – some of the locations with special water features are already listed here but this link brings you to where you can find all parks & rec pool locations!

Norview Splash Pad– Splash pads will reopen on June 27, 2022. Free & Open to the public at Norview Community Center – 6380 Sewells Point Road, Norfolk VA. Open to the public Monday – Friday from 10am – 6pm. Saturday 11:30am – 4pm (Closes Sept. 4)

Shoop Park Splash Pad – Splash pads will reopen on June 27, 2022. Free and open to the public Open to the public Monday – Friday from 10am – 6pm. Saturday 11:30am – 4pm (Closes Sept. 4)

Southside Aquatics Center Indoor Swimming Pool – Indoor pool with diving board, twisty tube slide, zero depth recreation and instruction area with play structures.

Town Point Park/Waterside– Interactive water fountain entertains visitors with daily performances of 28 water jets shooting water up to 12 ft into the air and enhancing its nighttime performances with illumination. The fountain are OPEN for the 2022 season for FREE summer water play. Fountain Field Days are back! Check out this post for updates.

Virgina Zoo– water fountains (including Fountain Plaza) are turned on seasonally for water play – they are currently Open for Summer 2022. Water fountain play is Free with paid Zoo admission.

YMCA on Granby – Outdoor Pool, Outdoor Water Slides. Membership required. Outdoor pools are OPEN for the 2022 season.

Portsmouth 

Cavalier Manor Pool & Portsmouth Sportsplex Pool – $1 admission. 2022: Website states it is still closed for winter. Glass containers, food and drinks (bottled water excluded) are not permitted. Large groups are encouraged to call ahead due to limited capacity. Proper swimming attire required.

Effingham Street YMCA – Outdoor Infant Wading Pool, Outdoor Pool. Membership required. Outdoor pools are OPEN for the 2022 season.

Portsmouth Splash Park– Open seasonally. The Splash Park is currently CLOSED due to equipment maintenance. Splash Park will re-open FRIDAY, 07/1/2022. Admission is FREE. Glass containers, food and drinks (bottled water excluded) are not permitted. Large groups are encouraged to call ahead due to limited capacity. Proper swimming attire required.

Suffolk

Cypress Park Pool – Open seasonally in summer. Located at 2001 Arizona Avenue, will offer open swim hours, Tuesdays through Sundays (closed Mondays) from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. Cypress Park Pool also offers swimming lessons for youth ages 5-17, group swim times, and party rentals by pre-paid reservations.

Suffolk Family YMCA – Indoor Pool, Outdoor Pool, Outdoor Splash Park. Membership required. Outdoor pools are OPEN for the 2022 season.

Virginia Beach

Bow Creek Recreation Center– Indoor pool with zero depth entry, lap lanes, deep water area with slide and a children’s area with slide and play features. Must be a member or purchase a day pass.

Kempsville Recreation Center – Indoor pool with zero-depth entry, six 25-meter lap lanes, two 1-meter diving boards, aqua track, leisure pool and water play components. Must be a member or purchase a day pass.

Larkspur Swim & Racquet Club – Outdoor pool (summer membership required) open to all neighborhoods. Open swim and Swim team available. Opening for the season May 28, 2022. Hours until June 17th- Saturday and Sunday only, 12pm-8pm. After June 18th- Monday thru Thursday 11am-6pm. Friday 11am-7pm. Saturday/Sunday 12pm-8pm.

Mount Trashmore YMCA – Indoor Pool, Outdoor Pool, Outdoor Splash Park, and an Infant Wading Pool. Membership required. Outdoor pools are OPEN for the 2022 season.

Ocean Breeze Water Park– an extensive world of water fun with play areas for the little ones and wave pools, slides and other attractions for the adults and older kids. Open for the 2022 season as of May 28, 2022. Paid admission. Day pass prices: $44.99 – $49.99 adult (ages 10 and up), $3499-$39.99 youth (ages 3-9), ages 2 and under are free. Military and senior discounts are available. Late admission discounts may be available.

Princess Anne Family YMCA – Indoor Pool, Indoor Splash Park. Membership required.

Simon Family JCC – Outdoor pool is open for the summer season May 28 – September 5, 2022. Indoor and outdoor pools. Outdoor water park open to members. Indoor lap pool, therapy pool and children’s pool. Swim lessons available. Membership required.

Virginia Beach Parks & Rec Pools – in addition to the water playgrounds at Bow Creek, Kempsville, and Williams Park the other recreation centers have pools that give lessons and have open swim sessions. Must be a member or purchase a day pass.

Williams Park Sprayground and Indoor Water Playground– A water play area (sprayground outdoors, water slides/play indoors) located at the Williams Park Recreation Center. Must be a member or purchase a day pass.

YMCA at JT’s Camp Grom – YMCA at JT’s Camp Grom offers: Adaptive Swim Lessons, Family Days, Youth Sports and more.

Yorktown

Water Country USA– water park with fun for all ages including the little kids. Rides, slides, entertainment and more. Paid admission, single day ticket prices start at $49.99.

Military Families

Joint Forces Langley-Ft Eustis Aquatic Center (open to military and civilians)- Indoor water park and pool on Ft Eustis. Daily admission rates: Active Duty $2/Retired & Dependents $3/Others $5. Monthly and longer-term rates also available.

Joint Forces Little Creek-Fort Story’s Gator Water Park (military only)- Opens May 28, 2022 for the season. Water park open to military on the JEB Little Creek-Fort Story Base. Open seasonally on Tuesday through Sunday from 11am to 4:30pm. Closed Mondays. Daily admission rates: $9 daily visit for active duty/retirees/reservists/eligible family members and $11 for DoD/guests. Children younger than age three are free. Season passes are available.

Oceana’s Aeropalms Water Park (military only)- Closed Until Further Notice. Water park open to military on the Oceana Naval Air Station Base. Weekends only late May to late June 11am to 5pm. Starting late June Wednesday through Monday 11am to 5pm. Call for cost for daily admission for military and for guests; ages five and younger are free. Season passes are also available.
