Local blogger Catherine Verdier from Where The Watermelons Grow has put together a great list of Family Friendly beaches in Hampton Roads. Find the list below!

Virginia Beach

Oceanfront: From Grommet Island Park all the way up to 40th Street, you can experience the sand, the boardwalk and everything in between. Address: Atlantic Avenue (between 1st and 40th Streets), Virginia Beach, VA.

North End: This beach is generally quieter than the Oceanfront/Boardwalk. Address: Atlantic Avenue (between 40th and 86th Streets), Virginia Beach, VA.

Chic’s Beach: Chic’s Beach has a sportier feel than the other Virginia Beach beaches and is located on the Chesapeake Bay side of Virginia Beach. Address: Sandy Bay Drive, Virginia Beach, VA

Croatan Beach: Just south of Rudee Inlet, located in a residential neighborhood. Address: S Atlantic Avenue, Virginia Beach, VA.

First Landing State Park: The beach at First Landing is a gentle bay beach, great for little ones. Address: 64th Street, Virginia Beach, VA.

Sandbridge: This beach is located on the outskirts of Virginia Beach (almost to North Carolina) and is a popular resort destination. Address: North Sandfiddler Rd, Virginia Beach, VA.

Norfolk

Community Beach Park: located in Ocean View. Address: 700 E. Ocean View Ave, Norfolk VA

East Beach: This beach is located in the East Beach neighborhood off of Shore Drive in Norfolk. Address: E. Beach Drive, Norfolk VA

Ocean View Beach Park: is located in the Ocean View neighborhood and can be found at 100 W. Ocean View Ave, Norfolk VA

Sarah Constant Beach Park: close to the Ocean View pier. Address: 300 W. Ocean View Ave, Norfolk VA

Hampton

Buckroe Beach: Beach on the Chesapeake Bay, lots of local events! Address: 100 1st Street South: Hampton, VA

Grandview Nature Preserve: Smaller beach on the Bay. Address: Beach Road and State Park Drive, Hampton VA

Outlook Beach at Fort Monroe: Public beach on the Bay. Address: Gulick Dr Fort Monroe National Monument, Hampton, VA

Newport News 

Huntington Park Beach: Public beach on the James River. Address: Riverpark Drive at Mercury Blvd, Newport News, VA.
