2026 FREE Summer Meals for Kids in Hampton Roads

Where things stand in August: most local summer meal programs finish as schools start back up for the fall session. Some programs only run through the end of July. Most schools reopen for the 2026 school year on August 14. The links below are the fastest way to confirm a location is still serving before you head out.

Summer meals provided for kids through the USDA’s Summer Feeding Program – Listed below you can find the plan for each local city (in addition to the link where we found the info so you can check for updates) for providing food to their students.

Chesapeake Summer Meals

Meals will be served Mondays through Thursdays beginning Monday, June 29, 2026, through Thursday, August 6, 2026. All locations will be closed July 2, 2026. Summer 2026 Location Updates Here.
- Meals will be provided to all children free of charge.
- Meals are available to all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability, or age. There will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.
- Meals are provided on a first-come, first-served basis at the sites and times listed below.
- Children must remain onsite while consuming their meals.

Suffolk Summer Meals

Suffolk Public Schools 2026 Update –
- Summer Meal Delivery Program: Meal deliveries will be provided to eligible rural areas beginning June 8, 2026, helping ensure access for families with limited transportation.
- Summer Feeding Sites: Breakfast and lunch will be served on-site at designated school locations (MBJES and KFMS) from June 29 through July 30, 2026 (this run has now ended). These sites offer students a convenient option for enjoying healthy meals in a welcoming environment.
- Community Food Bank Partnership Events: In partnership with the Food Bank, monthly food distribution events will be held at Mack Benn Jr. Elementary School on June 17, July 15, and August 12, 2026.
Suffolk Public Library:

- SPL events are free to attend and open to people of all abilities. If you or someone in your party will require accommodations in order to participate, please call 757-514-7323 and ask to speak with a manager. You do not need to be a library member in order to attend.
