Description: A very artsy horror show/haunted house.  The event is set in the future where Norfolk had been underwater for 500 years but the water has receded and now everything is garbage and there are half garbage/half-human mutants roaming the earth. The show includes a few scares but there is also a plot – a haunted house but also like a short play.  The show is about 20 minutes.  There are over a dozen art installations made by local artists.

Activity: Night School is an immersive haunted theatrical experience at the Hermitage Museum and Gardens. Something wicked is going on at Anderson Preparatory Academy. Go undercover at the school’s annual “friendraiser” to find out why students are literally dying to enroll. It’s a Halloween themed event, so wearing your most ghoulish costume will help you stay undercover as you tour the campus, meet faculty and students, and participate in crowning the Hallow-Queen.

Activity: Each year around Halloween, the Norfolk Masonic Temple transforms into the Haunted Temple. Actors take on the roles of creepy clowns, spirits, ghosts, and undead to bring the visitor’s nightmares to life, and the state-of-the-art animatronics and special effects ram up the terror. Those who emerge on the other end of the maze can wind down with a slice of pizza or a drink.

Somewhere when you least expect it you may run into your worst nightmares. Perhaps in an autopsy room, or the electric chair, or worse, lost in a maze. Even the walls are determined to get you! Activity: Based on the Jack-the-Ripper Walks in London, participants in the annual Olde Towne GhostWalk will be treated to some of the most haunting stories of Portsmouth’s past. Guides take spectators on a walk past haunted houses and mansions of Olde Towne, a 20-square block, 500 building area on the National Register of Historic Places. At each house on the tour, actors in appropriate costume will retell the legends of ghostly visitations and things that go bump in the night. Cameras are welcome. Houses are private properties and not open to the public. This event takes place rain or shine.

Date: Friday, October 15, 2021 at 7 p.m., 8 p.m., 9 p.m., and 10 p.m.
Activity: Adults Only Twilight Cemetery Tours  –  A hard cider tasting featuring Sly Clyde Ciderworks will be included in the experience. Guests must be 21 years of age or older to participate. IDs will be checked at the door and anyone without an ID or who is younger than 21 years old will not be admitted. Dead men don’t tell tales, but their tombstones do! St. Luke’s has been the site of burials since the 1600’s. Enjoy the stories of local saints and sinners on a guided tour through the Ancient Cemetery. There will be 4 time slots available: 7 p.m., 8 p.m., 9 p.m., and 10 p.m. The experience will take approximately 1 hour.

Activity: Walk the torch-lit trails of Kay’s Acres this October with the creatures and lost souls from a tragedy decades ago. This doesn’t mean it’s not a great place to enjoy yourself during the day. But at night, you can certainly tell.. there’s a lot here that…hasn’t left…

HAUNTING AT CHUCKATUCK: Curse of Frankenstein

Activity: A hair-raising encounter with the spirited side of Suffolk. Follow a costumed guide through the shadows of historic Main Street discovering stories, legends and “unexplained occurrences” by lantern light. VICTORIAN SUFFOLK: DYING TO BE THERE, A Guided Discovery of Cedar Hill Cemetery

The tour will feature Victorian-era symbolism, burial practices, funerary industries, and mourning rituals. This intriguing and educational excursion will highlight how the residents of Suffolk both lived and died in the 19th century. Cedar Hill Cemetery is more than two centuries old, with roots that harken back to the founding of Suffolk. Friday Night Frights at the Center (Suffolk)

Activity: The Suffolk Division of Tourism wants to give you the fright of your life as they present a series of classic horror films at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts.
