How To Add Your Event to the MyActiveChild.com Calendar

Featured Event Graphic

MyActiveChild.com has been sharing local events and activities with Hampton Roads families via our website calendar since 2011. Now, fast-forward to 2026, and our calendar page gets thousands of pageviews each month as our readers look for activities and events for their active families.

????  It is always FREE to add any upcoming family-friendly event to the MyActiveChild.com calendar. Want to know the steps for adding your event? Scroll down for tips to get the most out of your calendar event listing!

DO THIS: What events will be approved/published?

All events are reviewed before they are approved.

Single events (with or without registration requirements)
Ongoing events that are not part of a closed series of events (ex: a weekly art class that can be joined on any event date)
Family-friendly events open to any of the following age groups: Infant/Toddlers, Preschoolers, School-Age, Pre-Teens, Teenagers, and Individuals with disabilities.
Also ok to add: events that are designed for parents/adults and ALSO have activities for kids! Parent-only Family-Focused events like parenting classes/support groups can also be added with a note in the description saying that it is a parent-only event.

DON’T DO THIS: What events will NOT be approved/published?

A closed series of events/classes (ex: a weekly series of art classes where you are building on skills and you can’t join mid-session and there is no drop-in policy – these ongoing programs are promoted in our business listings)
Any camps that are more than a single day event (these are promoted in our business listings)
Anything event or activity that is exclusively adult-themed or involves adult-only content. No events just for 18+ unless specifically for parents, or special needs individuals/families.

????  That’s it! Keep Reading for more information on how to make your Event Listing appear on our Seasonal Event Lists, or if you are ready to submit an event click here: Submit An Event to the MyActiveChild.com Calendar.

Best Practices: Using MyActiveChild’s Calendar To Promote Your Event

???? If you anticipate regularly submitting events you can Request a Community Calendar Login, which will allow you to see the events you have submitted and edit/make changes if needed.

???? BIG LISTS! Many of our Big Lists are built off of submitted calendar events. You can make sure your event appears on the correct list by selecting the list under CATEGORIES.

Categories are broken up by:
☑️ Audience (select all that apply)
☑️ City (select only the city of the event location)
☑️ Lists – All Season Categories (select all that apply) *
☑️ Lists – Fall Event Categories (select all that apply)
☑️ Lists – Spring Event Categories (select all that apply)
☑️ Lists – Summer Event Categories (select all that apply)
☑️ Lists – Winter Event Categories (select all that apply)
☑️ SINGLE LISTS – these categories do not show up on the main calendar but do appear on lists like Spring Break Camps and VBS programs. If you select this category please do not choose any others, this is the only category that should be checked for these select topics.

*Please do not select the category for MyActiveChild CONNECTIONS EVENTS unless you have already spoken to Charlotte about hosting. Please do not select Featured Event unless you are submitting a request for a paid event listing (more information below). Questions? email charlotte@myactivechild.com

???? Featured Events: Why pay for a Featured Event listing? ????

There are thousands of events on the MyActiveChild.com calendar at any given time and because our calendar defaults to today’s events, your event may not be seen until the day it is scheduled to take place.

Planning Ahead: If you want families to know about your event ahead of time, or require registration, you may want to consider the added exposure of a Featured Calendar Event.
✅ A Featured Event will be seen at the top of the calendar page, above the list of today’s events.
Featured Events can include a detailed description, one or more images, and a direct registration link at the top of the event description.
✅ Make sure to ask about our non-profit and military discounts!
