VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads will host the 2012 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on January 16, 2012 at Calvary Revival Church in Norfolk from 9:00am to 12:00pm. On this day, Americans across the country will again honor Dr. King’s legacy of tolerance, peace and equality by meeting community needs and making the holiday “A day ON, not a day OFF.” The youth participants of this project will give back to their local community through hands-on projects promoting youth volunteerism and youth literacy.

Join VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads as we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by giving back to our community. At-risk youth will be paired with adult volunteers serving as mentors as they work together on projects that center around community service and literacy. We are looking for both youth and adult volunteers to participate in this event. All volunteers must be pre-registered. Registrations due by January 6, 2012 (see form below).

In addition, VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads is offering 2, $500 scholarships to elementary school students that win the “What Community Service Means to Me” essay contest. The two winners of the essay contest will have the opportunity to read their award-winning essays aloud at the event. All essay entries are due by 5:00 p.m. January 3, 2012 to be considered (see form below).

All forms below can be requested by emailing communityoutreach@volunteerhr.org
