Saturday, May 21, 2016 is Kids to Parks Day! Kids to Parks Day is an initiative to encourage families to get out and get active with the kids!

This year has partnered with the National Park Trust for a giveaway in honor of Kids to Parks Day! Enter at the end of this post to win 2 great books from National Geographic Kids - we were also sent copies of these books for participating in this blogging event (along with a super cute Buddy Bison toy) and my kids have had a great time reading them and looking at the beautiful pictures - an easy way to spark interest in getting outside and exploring our beautiful parks!

Every state park in Virginia is participating with events for the kids to mark the occasion of Kids to Parks Day, including False Cape State Park, and First Landing State Park. Many other locations are also having great outdoor events this weekend!

Make sure to Register for Kids to Parks Day - when you sign up to be counted for this year’s Kids to Parks Day you will be registered to win cool prizes, including a BabyBjörn Baby Carrier so you can enjoy the outdoors with your little one.

Kids To Parks Day at First Landing: From 11am-2pm Stop by the Trail Center for a day of awesome kids' activities. Meet Ranger Parker Redfox and some of his friends. There will be plenty of fun activities, guided hikes, and opportunities to meet some of First Landing's educational animals. Its a day to bring your whole family to meet some of the wonderful creatures of the park.

Wilderness Survival at False Cape State Park: From 9am-1pm Join False Cape's well known naturalist "Vickie Shufer" and find out what plants grow in these woods, learning their role in survival as well as how they were used by American Indians. Discover what animals live here by learning to identify their tracks. Find out how to locate and purify water, make cordage, build a shelter, and make fire without matches. Reservations are required: (757) 426-7128, cost is $10

National Kids to Parks Day beginning at 6pm at Bennett's Creek Park for music, bounce houses, other kids activities, and the movie "Goonies" on the big screen.

Kids to Parks Day from 10am-4pm at Twin Lakes State Park 788 Twin Lakes Rd., Green Bay, VA
