Description Puccini’s timeless masterpiece takes the Virginia Opera stage rendering this heartbreaking drama and mesmerizing score, featuring the poignant aria “Un bel di”. A tale of love and sacrifice set against a clash of cultures, Puccini’s use of authentic Japanese themes and soaring Italian lyricism created a powerful emotional experience. The orchestra for this production is provided by the Richmond Symphony Orchestra. Running Time: 2 hours 57 minutes (including intermission) Sung in Italian with English Supertitles.

Street Scene – September 26, 2019 at 7pm
Description: Hailed by critics as the first truly “American Opera”, and winner of the very first Tony Award for Best Original Score (1947), Street Scene mixes comedy, romance, and tragedy within a single New York City tenement. The score features jazz, Broadway show-stoppers, and full-throated verismo lyricism. Kurt Weill’s Street Scene is considered the first real successor of the Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, but it actually garnered more favorable reviews and enjoyed a longer Broadway run! The orchestra for this production is provided by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Running Time: 2 hours 35 minutes (including intermission). Sung in English with English Supertitles

DonGiovanni – October 31 2019 at 7pm
Description: Considered one of the top 10 operas in the world, Don Giovanni blends comedy, melodrama and supernatural elements into Mozart’s popular opera buffa. Don Giovanni is the consummate bad boy – a licentious nobleman who outrages all who encounter him with his philandering ways. This opera confronts all-too familiar contemporary and universal topics of sex, power, and morality. The orchestra for this production is provided by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Running Time: 2 hours 55 minutes (including intermission). Sung in Italian with English Supertitles
