Newport News Game On

Kicking off today in Newport News, a fun way to explore all the city has to offer and get some prizes along the way! Game On! can be played through the App available here during the month of July 2019.

There are Free Pop-up Activities taking place all month long where you visit a local rec center, complete a task, and get a prize including:

  • Brittingham-Midtown Community Center- Stop at the front desk and pick up a scavenger hunt list. Complete it and return it to the front desk for a prize (Bubbles).
  • Denbigh Community Center- Stop at the front desk and pick up a scavenger hunt list. Complete it and return it to the front desk for a prize (Sport Ball Note Pad).
  • Doris Miller Community Center- Stop at the front desk and pick up a scavenger hunt list. Complete it and return it to the front desk for a prize (USA Glider).
  • Newport News Golf Club at Deer Run – Stop in at the Pro Shop and let them know you would like to (choose one activity): Putting- make five putts or Chipping- chip a ball into the bucket for a prize (USA Flag Can Cover).
  • Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center –Take a guided tour through the Anderson Johnson Gallery for a prize (Downing-Gross Cultural Center Promotional Item).
  • Endview Plantation – Pick up a guide and walk the Nature Trail to learn about the historical uses of the native plants for a prize (Flag Fan).
  • Huntington Park Tennis Center- Pick up a scavenger hunt list. Complete it and return it for a prize (Sunglasses).
  • Lee Hall Mansion- Walk along the perimeter trail and learn about the mansion’s history. Say hello to a staff person for a prize (Patriotic Pinwheel).
  • Newport News Park Discovery Center-  1. Pick up a “Nature Scavenger Hunt” list. Take photos or bring items back to the Discovery Center for a prize (Magnifying Glass). 2. Pick up a Junior Ranger Program booklet. Return the completed booklet to the Discovery Center for a Certificate of Completion as a Junior Ranger. 3. Visit the Discover Center on Friday Nights for the Nature Adventures & Activities: July 12- Leave it to the Beavers at 6:30 p.m., July 19- Bats! At 8:00 p.m. and July 20- Snakes, Fact vs. Fiction at 8:00 p.m.
  • The Newsome House- Take a guided tour for a prize (Watercolor Notepad).
  • Newport News Visitors Center at Newport News Park- Write a love letter about Newport News. Return it to a desk staff person for a prize (Newport News Tourism Promotional Item).
  • Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter- Say hello to a staff person and ask them what is their favorite type of animal for a prize (Paw Print Bracelet).
