MyActiveChild Supports CHKD’s Mental Health Programming

Mental Health is so important – individually, within families, within communities, and especially among our children. Unfortunately, just when families need it the most, access to needed services can be hard to find.

Did you know?

One out of every five children has a diagnosable mental health condition. While early intervention can make a life or death difference, fewer than 25 percent of those children receive treatment. Suicide is the second-leading cause of death for children ages 10-24.

As someone who has struggled with my own mental health (and watched others in my life struggle), as a parent, and as a former social worker, I have seen the mental health crisis grow and frustrations rise over the lack of resources available to children and families in crisis.

When I heard about Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD)’s Light The Way campaign I knew I wanted to be involved.

I am thrilled to announce that beginning August 1, 2021, MyActiveChild will be donating a portion of the proceeds from each local ad purchased on MyActiveChild.com to Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD)’s Light The Way campaign! I am impressed with how CHKD has taken action to help meet this need in the Hampton Roads community and I am proud to be a part of this initiative.

CHKD’s new mental health hospital and outpatient center will be a beacon of health, healing, and hope for all children. The building is on track to open in April 2022 with select outpatient services. Inpatient mental health will begin in late summer of 2022.

Be well,
