Lightwire Theater: A Very Electric Christmas

What: Brighten your holidays with this magical and captivating tale of family, friendship and hope set to timeless holiday hits! Combining theater and eye-popping technology performed in complete darkness, Lightwire brings stories to life in ways that will mesmerize children of all ages. The troupe has been featured on NBC’s America’s Got Talent and returns to The American Theatre after last year’s enchanting sold-out performance. Lightwire Theater’s original story follows a young bird named Max who gets blown off course and finds himself at the North Pole. Expect caroling worms, dancing poinsettias, Nutcracker soldiers, mischievous mice, and more in this delightful and illuminating holiday production.

The Manhattan Transfer Holiday Show

Where: The American Theatre, 125 E Mellen St, Hampton, VA 23663
When: December 1-2, 2018. Saturday 8pm. Sunday 3pm.
What: The Manhattan Transfer kicks off a harmonic holiday season as the vocal group brings its signature sound to The American Theatre. Expect an evening of spectacular singing that has earned the group an astounding 10 Grammy Awards for its unique arrangements and performance style. The Manhattan Transfer’s incredible vocal power has entertained worldwide audiences for more than four decades. During this special time of year, the group delivers a remarkable performance of holiday favorites from its hit albums, The Christmas Album, An Acapella Christmas, as well as selections from the recently released, chart-soaring album, The Junction. The Manhattan Transfer Holiday Show is a rare opportunity to see one of the music industry’s most influential jazz vocal groups.

"A Hampton Home Companion" Vintage Holiday Radio Show!

What: Our tribute to the famous radio show "Prarie Home Companion" The Grey Goose is producing our version "A Hampton Home Companion" featuring local musicians Dana Clark Epstein, Holly Kirstin and Tammy Gandolfo in this acoustic musical spectacular! Perfect for your family and friends or even your office party! This event features a three course dinner and musical entertainment, fun for the whole family!

Hampton Roads Philharmonic: Winter Classics & Holiday Favorites

Mannheim Steamroller Christmas by Chip Davis

When: Monday, November 26, 2018 at 7:30pm. 
What: Mannheim Steamroller Christmas by Chip Davis, now in its 31st year, is still met by sold-out audiences and was one of the top 20 concert tours in the nation last year. This year, Mannheim Steamroller’s two touring ensembles will hold over 90 performances throughout the United States. The shows will feature the favorite Christmas music of Mannheim Steamroller along with state-of-the-art multimedia effects in an intimate setting.

Winter Dreams

When: Friday, November 30, 2018 at 8pm
What: “Winter is coming….” Usher in the season with the VSO in a program that pays homage to winter featuring Glazunov’s picturesque Winter from The Seasons. Acclaimed cellist Julian Schwarz returns with Tchaikovsky’s delightful Rococo Variations. The VSO then takes a trip north to Finland for Sibelius’ evocative Fifth Symphony. We close with a rare treat on the concert stage, the climactic Pas de Deux from Tchaikovsky’s beloved Nutcracker.

The Nutcracker Ballet + Tea & Sweets Party

What: It wouldn't be the holidays without Dickens' A Christmas Carol at the Wells Theatre. CTHR Presents "Uncle Wiggily's Christmas Carol"

Virginia Chorale - Sing We Nowell

What: Traditional carols and seasonal anthems fill the air as the Chorale presents its annual joy-filled celebration of the holidays. Harpists Barbara Chapman and Colleen Thorburn join the chorus for the Hampton Roads premiere of Will Todd’s radiant Among Angels, a lustrous evocation of angels in flight. The program also includes alluring arrangements of holiday favorites including I wonder as I wander (Steve Pilkington), Gabriel’s Message  (Stephen Paulus), and Angels We Have Heard on High (Donald McCullough).

Soweto Gospel Choir

What: This extraordinary South African choir brings irresistible, infectious joy to their performances, blending elements of African gospel, traditional spirituals, American popular music, and holiday songs. The group first performed at a historic 2003 concert for Nelson Mandela and has since toured internationally; their albums Blessed and African Spirit won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional World Music Album in 2007 and 2008. Phil Kline’s Unsilent Night

Where: MacArthur Square-Tide Station Norfolk, Virginia 23510

What: Unsilent Night is coming back to Downtown Norfolk!  Join in Downtown Norfolk’s 5th annual Unsilent Night, an outdoor boombox parade that brings together art, music, and people during the holidays.   All you need to do is show up at MacArthur Square with a musical device and some holiday cheer! After we gather, the crowd will walk through Downtown and the Freemason neighborhood, holding aloft boomboxes and speakers playing artist Phil Kline’s electronic musical masterpiece. The music creates a layered, beautiful sound that emanates throughout as you walk down city streets twinkling with holiday lights.  Meet between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m. at MacArthur Square by the Christmas tree. The promenade begins at 5:30 p.m., winding through Downtown, under the Granby Street lighting, over to Freemason, and ending at the Selden Arcade.  Selden Market will be hosting a gathering after the promenade with hot apple cider from Vessel Craft Coffee and marshmallow treats from S'MORES AMORE, plus evening holiday shopping.

RICHMOND BALLET'S NUTCRACKER

What: Tchaikovsky's brilliant ballet score comes to life for this magical collaboration between Richmond Ballet, The State Ballet of Virginia, and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra! Heralded as "perfect" by The New York Times, Stoner Winslett's The Nutcracker returns to Chrysler Hall for the 6th consecutive year. What: Conducted by Daniel W. Boothe, this concert includes the audience, who will sing the choruses from the Christmas portion of Messiah. Professional singers will perform the solos. Arrive early for the best seat selection.
Cost: FREE and Open to the Public - Prior to the concert, Messiah scores will be sold for $10 each. Of course, donations would be appreciated but not expected.

 

"The Christmas Express" at Wave Church

Where: Wave Church 1000 N. Great Neck Rd, Virginia Beach VA 
When: Sunday, December 23, 2018 at 11am and 6pm and Monday, December 24, 2018 at 5pm.
What: We are so excited for our Christmas Express Production this year! We can’t wait for you to join us! The Christmas Express is a newer addition to our Christmas tradition! This is a visual & musical production that features incredible set design built by our volunteers, upgraded technology, improved sound system, new LED screens, as well as original songs written by our very own Create Team!
