Keeping Kids Active At Home (During COVID19)

In addition to online schooling, keeping up with what events/activities are available online, and figuring out our new normal, one of the things I have been struggling with is how to keep my kids MOVING. They normally have regular athletic practices and lessons and all of that has come to a stop as we all practice social distancing.

Exercise helps not only with burning off some of that cooped up energy, but also helps us deal with stress and uncertainty we are all feeling right now.

So, because I am searching these options for myself, I’m putting together this list! If you have a great resource to add please Submit Additions to this List Here. Here are some ideas of things to check out during this time at home:

The Little Gym (Chesapeake & Virginia Beach)

The Little Gym has gone online! During the COVID19 shutdown The Little Gym has launched The Little Gym at Home. This new program is open to Past, Present and Future members of The Little Gym (that’s you!) and content is available online via LIVE streaming of The Little Gym classes for your little one to do at home. Get ready to move to their silly songs, practices your gymnastics skills, and get creative! Check out the full schedule on their Facebook Pages for Chesapeake and Virginia Beach for how to access and specific times.

Gymboree Play & Music Virginia Beach

Gymboree Play & Music Virginia Beach has online content for members available in their private FB Group. Find out more on their Facebook page.

Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation

Virginia Beach Rec Center Members have access to an extensive collection of Les Mills Online Workouts during the COVID19 shutdown.

If you are a member of My Gym Virginia Beach you can also access online content. You can find out more information on their Facebook Page.

INLeT Fitness South

This local gym is Live Streaming workouts for you to do at home on their Facebook page, some may be appropriate for the bigger kids to follow along. Make sure to check out their workout highlighting the use of items most of us have at home – streamed from the Cullipher Farm orchard!

Go Noodle

Go Noodle has long been a staple in our house for rainy days and burning off energy. Your school may have an account, but there is also free access for families available on the link above. 

Cosmic Kids Yoga

We have tried this before but I have also seen several friends post videos of their kids getting their Zen on with their Youtube channel this past week. Cosmic Kid Yoga – Yoga, mindfulness and relaxation designed specially for kids aged 3+, used in schools and homes all over the world.

Beach Body Kids Workouts

During this unprecedented time, we want to continue helping families stay healthy and sane by offering some fun ways to expend energy together. With schools out and no formal recess or P.E., we hope you’ll use these workouts to make family fitness fun and a part of your daily routine with our free selection of Beachbody Kids Workouts from Beachbody celebrity trainers Tony Horton, Shaun T and Leandro Carvalho. Joe Wicks – Daily PE Classes for Kids on YouTube

The workouts are designed to be kid friendly, will last half an hour, and won’t need much space so they can be done indoors if you’re self-isolating. (thanks PlayPennies!)

Planet Fitness has moved their classes online and may be appropriate for the bigger kids (and parents). Livestreaming on their Facebook Page several times a day.
