The high-energy musical The Wiz opens Friday at the Wells Theatre.

Presented by The Virginia Stage Company and Norfolk State University, the show is fun for all ages. This is a great opportunity to expose children to live theatre.

In addition, the Wells Theatre recently underwent extensive remodeling so it is a chance to view this important Norfolk landmark in a new light.

Adapted from L. Frank Baum’s classic tale, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the show comes alive with plenty of music and dancing.

Alana Houston plays Dorothy in the role and stars alongside Norfolk State University theatre program students. The university’s theatre program is the most recognized Historically Black College and University theatre programs in the country. Also in the production are union actors from Hampton Roads and New York.

While the show is for all ages, children who are afraid of loud noises should not attend.

The show will continue daily until April 30, 2017. For more information and tickets, visit www.vastage.orgÂ
