Meg Leahey is the Community Outreach Coordinator for VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads in Norfolk, VA. She matches volunteers with local volunteer opportunities throughout Hampton Roads. Meg writes a monthly guest post with updates on opportunities to volunteer with the kids!

It’s almost August…

But there is still plenty of time to engage your children in volunteering during their summer holiday. The Autism Society, Tidewater Chapter has recently added volunteer opportunities to our HandsOn Calendar that include volunteers as young as 11 years old! These opportunities go on throughout the Fall and Winter and are a great way to teach the youth of Hampton Roads how to give back to the community.

The following events are being hosted by the Autism Society, Tidewater Chapter throughout the remainder of 2012:

Saturday, August 18 – Surfers Healing 5k – Volunteers needed for set-up, check-in, hospitality, cheerleading, water stations and break down. (Volunteers ages 13+)

Saturday, October 27 – 2nd Annual Autism Bootacular Fall Social – Volunteers needed for parking lot attendants, set-up, break down, decorations, door greeters, registration, snack station, trick or treat stations, face painters, game stations, arts and crafts, photography booth and peer buddies. (Volunteers ages 13+)

Saturday, November 3 – Tween Social – Volunteers needed for social networking, games and fun. (Volunteers ages 11+)

Saturday, December 1 – Teen/Adult Social – Volunteers needed for social networking and games. (Volunteers ages 15+)
