Most of you know that our family is a military family. My husband is in the Navy and has deployed several times since we have been married.

While getting through a deployment is always difficult, once you have children it takes on a whole different dynamic. Helping children understand deployment, or any extended separation, is a challenge and many families come up with beautiful, creative, ways to mark the time until they are together again.
Hampton Roads based Donna Purkey is a Navy wife and mother of two. She enjoys reading, writing, and spending time with her family. Her unique puzzle project idea has comforted and inspired many military families and she hopes it will do the same for yours! Her children have created four puzzle projects during her husband’s recent deployments, and they have since been framed and proudly hang in their Suffolk, VA home.
Donna has been kind enough to offer MyActiveChild.com readers up to FIVE free copies of her new book, Miss You to Pieces: A Deployment Story and Project Idea for Kids
Book Description: Riley’s dad is in the Navy and deploys for 6 months. To help Riley count the days, his mom introduces a unique puzzle project in which he also finds comfort, strength, and encouragement. Children experiencing a temporary separation from a loved one will identify with Riley’s story and will learn that while we are challenged, we also grow and become stronger. We build ourselves as Riley builds his puzzle, and we stay connected to our loved ones as Riley’s family, and his puzzle pieces, stay connected. The puzzle project can be easily adapted for any family experiencing a temporary separation. The book includes tips for creating your own puzzle project!
Donna Purkey is available for speaking engagements to share her story and project idea with your group or organization. She has presented at local schools, FRG’s, PTA meetings, MOPS, and more! Contact her at [email protected] for more information.

Additionally, autographed copies of the book are available for purchase from Donna Purkey directly. She may be contacted at [email protected] for more information. Mention you saw this on MyActiveChild.com for a special price!!!

Miss You to Pieces would make a GREAT Christmas gift for a military family you know!
