Celebrate Freedom

  • Date: Wednesday, July 3, 2019 from 5-9:15pm
  • Location: Chesapeake City Park, 900 Greenbrier Parkway, Chesapeake, VA 23320
  • Description: Event is FREE to the public. $5 on-site Parking Fee. Celebrate America's Birthday with the U.S. Fleet Forces Band, providing stirring patriotic sounds. Following the concert, fireworks by Pyrotechnico will illuminate the dark sky after sunset. Parks, Recreation and Tourism also will present the best in children's activities and family entertainment: face painting, 3 years and under play area, giant lawn games, inflatables and much more. The Chesapeake Public Art Committee will be on site to raise awareness and take donations for the Chesapeake 9/11 Memorial, along with the Fine Arts Commission's fundraising arm, ART'S ALIVE! A variety of "food vendor" concessions will also be available for an evening picnic. Bring your own chairs or blanket. (Pop-up Tents not permitted)

  • Date: Thursday, July 4, 2019. Fun run at 8am. Fun Zone open from 9am-12pm.
  • Location: Community Church - Western Branch Campus 1935 Jolliff Rd Chesapeake, VA 23321
  • Description: An awesome, FREE*, one-stop experience for food and fun to start your Fourth of July!
    • Includes multiple obstacles and loads of fun! Check in at 7:00am to race at 8:00am. $30 registration and a can of nonperishable food is required. For ages 5+. Participants receive a race bib, custom medal, sunglasses, swag bag and t-shirt. 
    • Chick-Fil-A® breakfast for sale
    • Free for all! From 9:00am-12:00pm. A huge spread of bounce houses, face painting, pony rides, and outdoor games! Superheroes and the Chick-Fil-A cow are available for photos and high fives! The Suffolk Fire and Safety Unit and Chesapeake Police K-9 Unit create an engaging and exciting experience for kids and families!

  • Date: Thursday, July 4, 2019, from 10am-3pm
  • Location: Lakeside Park, 1441 Bainbridge Blvd, Chesapeake, VA
  • Description: Parade, entertainment, food, games and paddleboat rides! The parade steps off at 10 a.m. and the picnic is at 11 am - 3 pm. Event is FREE to the public!
  • Cost: Free and open to the public



Fourth at the Fort at Fort Monroe

  • Date: Thursday, July 4, 2019, at 1pm
  • Location: Fort Monroe, VA 23651
  • Description: This annual ceremony in partnership with the Fort Monroe Authority, Casemate Museum, and James Monroe Memorial Foundation observes the 188th anniversary of the 1831 death of President James Monroe. 2019 will honor the legacy and connections of “Freedom’s Fortress,” and explore the efforts to bridge the historical racial divide between communities in Virginia.

Special Event: Fort Monroe Fun and Fireworks July 5th

  • Date: Friday, July 5, 2019, from 6-9:30pm
  • Location: Fort Monroe, VA 23651
  • Description: This traditional Fort Monroe event includes live music, food vendors, family-friendly activities and a spectacular fireworks. The USAF Heritage of America Blue Aces Ensemble will perform at 7 pm. The Blue Aces are 7 dynamic Airman-musicians who perform a diverse mix of today’s favorite artists (Kings of Leon, Imagine Dragons, Tori Kelly, Eric Church, etc.) and the old school rock and rhythm and blues of yesterday (ZZ Top, Stevie Wonder, Allman Brothers, The Beatles, etc.) The band, comprised of a 2 vocalists, guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and horn section. Following the performance by the Blues Aces, the fireworks display will begin at 9:15 pm. Earlier in the day, visitors have use of the beaches, picnic areas, campground, fishing piers, waterfront restaurants and the craft brewery.

"Spirit of America" Laser Lights Show at Abbitt Planetarium 

  • Date: Thursday, July 4, 2019, hourly from 5-10pm
  • Location: Virginia Living Museum 524 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601
  • Description: Join us in the Abbitt Planetarium for a celebration of America. Spirit of America mixes great patriotic music with America-inspired rock & roll and songs that have defined American music. Rock on to great artists like John Fogerty, Garth Brooks, Lee Greenwood and so many, many more. Recommended for ages 6 and up.
  • Cost: $3 VLM members, $6 non-members. 

4th of July Stars In The Sky - *Fireworks rescheduled to Fri, July 5th at 9:30pm*

  • Date: Thursday, July 4, 2019 from 7-10pm
  • Location: Victory Landing Park, 50 26th Street, Newport News, VA 23605
  • Description: The event begins at 7:00 p.m. with free children’s inflatables (moon bounces, obstacle courses), free face painting, the Tomcats Dixieland Band (performing near the Newport News Victory Arch) and strolling entertainment. Food vendors will be on site selling a variety of items including funnel cakes, hot dogs, hamburgers and seafood. Live music will be provided by the USAF Heritage of America Band Full Spectrum from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Free light-up give-a-way items will be given out during the event (while supplies last). A spectacular fireworks show by the internationally award winning fireworks company Pyrotecnico, will be presented by Newport News Shipbuilding, a Division of Huntington-Ingalls Industries, and will light up the sky over the James River at 9:30 p.m.

Military: 2019 Music Under the Stars

  • Description: The TRADOC Band's 88th season of Music Under the Stars at beautiful Magnolia Park on Fort Eustis, Va.




Star Spangled Bike Parade

  • Date: Sunday, June 30, 2019 at 3pm
  • Location: Graydon Pl, Norfolk, VA 
  • Description: Join the West Ghent Civic League for our Annual 4th of July Bike Parade! Help your children decorate their bikes in their best patriotic gear -- red, white, blue, stars and stripes are all encouraged! Parade riders will be escorted by the Norfolk Police Department to ensure safety and fun! The parade will start and end on the corner of Graydon Place and Weyanoke Street. See you at the Star Spangled Bike Parade!

Norfolk Tides Baseball Game

  • Description: Stay after the game for FIREWORKS!

  • Date: Thursday, July 4, 2019 from 9:30am-1pm
  • Location: Hague Community Cleanup Weekends 1 Memorial Place, Norfolk, Virginia 23510
  • Description: Please join us for Ghent’s Annual 4th of July Children’s Bike Parade! Bring your best red, white and blue decorated bike, trike, child, dog etc. for a fun filled parade with your neighbors and friends. All are welcomed! Patriotic participants will assemble on Thurs. July 4th between 9:30 a.m. - 10 a.m. at The Chrysler Museum to assemble for the parade. Then we’ll march along Fairfax Avenue, down Colonial Avenue, and along the Mowbray Arch waterfront back to the Museum. Then enjoy treats, face-painting and prizes from 10:30a - 1p. Very small children may want to ride along Fairfax and then circle back to the activity tents at the city park on Olney Road across from the Chrysler. Our beloved Community Resource Officer (CRO) Samantha Perez will lead the neighborhood parade in her police car. There will be popsicles and camraderie for all at the finish line. Wear your favorite red, white and blue and join the fun! RSVPS are appreciated. 

The 37th Annual Fourth of July Great American Picnic & Fireworks

  • Date: Thursday, July 4, 2019 from 5-10pm
  • Location: TowneBank Fountain Park within Town Point Park, Waterside Drive, Norfolk, VA 23510
  • Description: Leave the grilling to us on the 4th of July and bring your family and friends down to Town Point Park. Guests can buy traditional all American fare, including hot dogs, hamburgers, barbecue, seafood, buttered corn on the cob, juicy watermelon, lemonade... with all the fixins and much more available for purchase! Relax on the lawn and enjoy the live entertainment, then watch as the sky lights up with the fireworks display at 9:30 pm! The Great American Picnic & Fireworks celebration is free and open to the public!

Shore Thing Independence Day Concert, Celebration & Fireworks 

  • Date: Friday, July 5, 2019 from 6-9:30pm
  • Location: Ocean View Beach Park Norfolk, Virginia 23503
  • Description: Summer brings the return of the popular Friday after-work Ocean View event series. The Friday Night Themed Parties and Family Fun & Movie Nights are a great way to start the weekend with Live Music, children's activities, food, beverages and more! On Friday, July 5, 2019 celebrate with the Shore Thing Concert and Independence Day Celebration. Fireworks at 9:30pm.

  • Location: Afton Parkway & George Washington Highway Entrance, Portsmouth VA
  • Description: Celebrating the 4th of July beginning at 8:30 AM with the Children's Bike Parade units. The bike units will gather at George Washington Highway HWY & Afton PKWY Entrance for registration. At 9:30 AM, the Fire Engine will lead the parade to Afton Square. The Flag-raising in Afton Squareat begins at 10 AM with patriotic music and speeches. Refreshments provided by the VFW & DAV.

  • Description: July brings fireworks to Isle of Wight County! Bring everyone to watch the spectacular array of colors light up the night sky.

  • Location: Constant's Wharf Park and Marina, 110 E. Constance Road, Suffolk, VA 23434
  • Description: Enjoy the Stars and Stripes Spectacular, as the skies of Suffolk light up with the firework show over the Nansemond River at Constant's Wharf Park & Marina. The park will open at 5:30pm with entertainment, children's activities, local merchandise vendors and food choices available. The firework show will begin at 9 p.m., for the whole family to enjoy! Music will be provided.
  • Cost: Free admission, $5 for kids area activities (ages 12 and under). There will be free shuttles from the First Baptist Church, Godwin Courts, and City Hall parking lots beginning at 5:15


July 4th Celebration at Mt Trashmore

  • Date: Thursday, July 4, 2019 from 4-10pm. Fireworks will be at 9:30pm.
  • Location: Mount Trashmore Park, 310 Edwin Drive Virginia Beach, VA
  • Description: Celebrate with your friends and family at our annual July 4th Celebration at Mount Trashmore Park! Fireworks begin at 9:30 pm. Food and drinks available for purchase.

  • Location: Virginia Beach Oceanfront / Boardwalk, Virginia Beach, VA
  • Description: Multiple live performances on oceanfront stages will attract thousands of visitors and residents of Virginia Beach to a “star-spangled” salute to this great country of ours at Stars & Stripes Explosion on July 4! Scheduled live entertainment offers something for everyone: patriotic and classical to tribute bands, and naturally, fireworks! All concerts and the fireworks show are free and open to the public.

Yorktown Fourth of July

  • Date: Thursday, July 4, 2019 from 8-10am, at 1pm and 7-9:15pm 
  • Location: Yorktown Waterfront, Yorktown VA
  • Description: 8k/5k and parade in the morning followed by Family Activities at 1pm, and from 7-9:15pm the Sounds of Liberty bell ringing ceremony, a concert and Fireworks.

  • Date: Thursday, July 4, 2019 from 9am-6pm
  • Location: American Revolution Museum, Route 1020 in Yorktown, near Yorktown Battlefield
  • Description: Salute the 243rd anniversary of the Declaration of Independence during “Liberty Celebration,” July 4 at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., visitors can enjoy music, interpretive programs, military drills and artillery demonstrations, as well as learn about the challenges that faced our nation’s founders, including those who signed the Declaration of Independence.
  • Cost: Admission to the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (until 6 p.m. June 15-August 15), is $15.00 for adults and $7.50 for ages 6-12. Children under 6 are free. Admission is free for residents of York and James City counties and the City of Williamsburg, including College of William and Mary students, with proof of residency.
