CHESAPEAKE

 

4th of July at Great Bridge Battlefield & Waterways History Foundation 

  • Date: July 4, 2020. Join our town crier as he spreads the news of our country’s Independence at 12:00 noon and 2:00 pm.  The museum will be open from 10:00am to 4:00 pm.
  • Location: 1775 Historic Way Chesapeake, Virginia
  • Description: Hear ye. Hear ye! Come one and all to the Great Bridge Battlefield Museum on Saturday July 4th to hear the exciting news received from Philadelphia!  Bring your friends and family! Come in and experience our beautiful museum exhibits.  We are abiding by the governor’s executive order of social distancing, limited capacity, and the use of facial masks while in the building. If you do not have a mask we do have them for sale in our gift shop.
  • Cost: General Admission. $8. Seniors (65+) $7. Military (active, retired, reserves $7. Youth (6-17) $5. Children (0- 5) Free. Members - Free.
 

Celebrate Freedom

  • Date: This event has been canceled due to COVID-19
  • Location: Chesapeake City Park, 900 Greenbrier Parkway, Chesapeake, VA 23320
  • Description: Event is FREE to the public. $5 on-site Parking Fee. Celebrate America's Birthday with the U.S. Fleet Forces Band, providing stirring patriotic sounds. 
  • Cost: Free, there is a $5 parking fee
 
40th Annual South Norfolk Parade and Picnic in the Park

  • Date: This event has been canceled due to COVID-19
  • Location: Lakeside Park, 1441 Bainbridge Blvd, Chesapeake, VA
  • Description: Parade, entertainment, food, games and paddleboat rides! The parade steps off at 10 a.m. and the picnic is at 11 am - 3 pm. Event is FREE to the public!
  • Cost: Free and open to the public



HAMPTON

 

The City of Hampton and Fort Monroe Fourth of July Special

  • Date: July 4, 2020 from 7-8pm
  • Location: The City of Hampton and Fort Monroe Fourth of July Special will air on the Hampton City Channel, Cox 47 and FIOS 22. Viewers will also be able to view the live web feed.
  • Description: While there will not be an in-person fireworks show at Fort Monroe this year, the special production will feature Hampton’s great Fourth of July traditions including a fireworks show, music and greetings and well wishes from citizens, organizations and businesses all around Hampton.
 
 

NEWPORT NEWS

 

4th of July At Home - 

Date: July 4, 2020
Location: Your Home (see link for details on light-up scheduled for 9pm)
Description: This 4th of July, the City of Newport News invites residents to “celebrate together, at home,” with festive at-home celebrations, interactive activities, and special “Light up the City” illuminations for our Nation’s birthday. These activities will replace our usual 4th of July Stars in the Sky event and fireworks celebration this year. 
  • On July 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., families can drive up to one of three sites and pick up American flags and LED wands (one each, per person in vehicle) and a 4th of July yard sign (one per vehicle). Food trucks will be selling items at these community centers during the pick-up hours. The locations are:
    • - Denbigh Community Center, 15198 Warwick Boulevard
    • - Brittingham-Midtown Community Center, 570 McLawhorne Drive
    • - Doris Miller Community Center, 2814 Wickham Avenue
 

"Spirit of America" Laser Lights Show at Abbitt Planetarium 

  • Date: This event has been canceled due to COVID-19
  • Location: Virginia Living Museum 524 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601
  • Description: Join us in the Abbitt Planetarium for a celebration of America. Spirit of America mixes great patriotic music with America-inspired rock & roll and songs that have defined American music. Rock on to great artists like John Fogerty, Garth Brooks, Lee Greenwood and so many, many more. Recommended for ages 6 and up.
  • Cost: $3 VLM members, $6 non-members. 
 

4th of July Stars In The Sky -

Fly Like An Eagle
  • Date: This event has been canceled due to COVID-19
  • Location: Newport News Park, 13560 Jefferson Ave, Newport News, VA
  • Description: Celebrate July 4th by learning more about our country’s national symbol - the bald eagle!  At 10 a.m., you’ll learn where they live, who their relatives are, how they catch their prey, and how they raise their young. After the program until 2 p.m., we’ll have eagle crafts for you to make here or take home.

The 38th Annual Fourth of July Great American Picnic & Fireworks

  • Date: This event has been canceled due to COVID-19
  • Location: TowneBank Fountain Park within Town Point Park, Waterside Drive, Norfolk, VA 23510
  • Description: Leave the grilling to us on the 4th of July and bring your family and friends down to Town Point Park. Guests can buy traditional all American fare, including hot dogs, hamburgers, barbecue, seafood, buttered corn on the cob, juicy watermelon, lemonade... with all the fixins and much more available for purchase! Relax on the lawn and enjoy the live entertainment, then watch as the sky lights up with the fireworks display at 9:30 pm! The Great American Picnic & Fireworks celebration is free and open to the public!

Shore Thing Independence Day Concert, Celebration & Fireworks

  • Description: Summer brings the return of the popular Friday after-work Ocean View event series. The Friday Night Themed Parties and Family Fun & Movie Nights are a great way to start the weekend with Live Music, children's activities, food, beverages and more! On Friday, July 5, 2019 celebrate with the Shore Thing Concert and Independence Day Celebration. Fireworks at 9:30pm.

Fireworks Show

  • Date: July 4, 2020 at 9:30pm
  • Location: Heritage Park Fairgrounds 21311 Courthouse Hwy, Windsor, VA
  • Description:  Drive-In only event. Guests are required to stay in their vehicles. There will be no on-site restrooms available. Please keep all trash in your vehicles to dispose of at home. Gates open at 7:30pm and Fireworks will begin at approximately 9:30pm or at dark.

SUFFOLK


Independence Day Scavenger Hunt

  • Description: Here are our clues to the hunt. Virtual Fourth of July Celebration

  • Description: Although we can't celebrate the 4th of July as we typically do this year with thousands of our closest friends and neighbors due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Suffolk will be providing a "Virtual Fireworks" display for all to enjoy! The video features highlights of several years of Parks & Recreation's "Stars & Stripes Spectacular" events held at the Constant's Wharf Park & Marina, and is available to download at https://youtu.be/fpY-Pj3DCTA, in addition to being featured on the City's Municipal Channel several times throughout the day on Saturday, July 4th.

Stars & Stripes Spectacular

  • Date: This event has been canceled due to COVID-19
  • Location: Constant's Wharf Park and Marina, 110 E. Constance Road, Suffolk, VA 23434
  • Description: Enjoy the Stars and Stripes Spectacular on July 4th as the skies of Suffolk light up with a fireworks show over the beautiful Nansemond River at Constant’s Wharf Park and Marina. 

    Cost: Free admission, $5 for kids area activities (ages 12 and under). There will be free shuttles from the First Baptist Church, Godwin Courts, and City Hall parking lots beginning at 5:15. The last shuttle run before the fireworks begin is at 8:20 pm. Shuttles will resume after the fireworks have concluded.

Stars & Stripes Explosion & Fireworks at the Oceanfront 

  • Date: This event has been canceled due to COVID-19
  • Location: Virginia Beach Oceanfront / Boardwalk, Virginia Beach, VA
  • Description: Multiple live performances on oceanfront stages will attract thousands of visitors and residents of Virginia Beach to a “star-spangled” salute to this great country of ours at Stars & Stripes Explosion on July 4! Scheduled live entertainment offers something for everyone: patriotic and classical to tribute bands, and naturally, fireworks! All concerts and the fireworks show are free and open to the public.

Liberty Celebration in Yorktown
 
  • Date: July 4, 2020 from 9am-6pm (Check for updates here)
  • Location: American Revolution Museum, Route 1020 in Yorktown, near Yorktown Battlefield
  • Description: The American Revolution Museum at Yorktown is anticipated to reopen on Wednesday, June 24, with adjustments to operations and access to outdoor living-history areas and gallery exhibits so visitors can enjoy the museum experience while following new safety protocols and social-distancing procedures.
  • Cost: Admission to the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (until 6 p.m. June 15-August 15), is $15.25 for adults and $7.75 for ages 6-12. Children under 6 are free. 
 
Yorktown Independence Day Bell Ringing Ceremony

  • Date: July 4, 2020
  • Location: Online from home
  • Description: Although the Yorktown Bell Ringing Ceremony has been cancelled for this year, we did have all of the participants record their parts and we pieced it together into a virtual program.  It's not the same as being there... but, it's the next best thing. 
 

Independence Day Celebration at the Watermen's Museum

  • Date: July 4, 2020 from 11am-5pm. Hot Dog Contest at 12:30pm
  • Location: The Watermen's Museum 309 Water Street, Yorktown
  • Description: Celebrate with social distancing while enjoying live music, a food truck, colonial glass-blowing demonstration, cannon firings, military reenactors, hot dog eating contest, and more. 
  • Cost: Admission is free
 

Yorktown Fourth of July

  • Date: This event has been canceled due to COVID-19.
  • Location: Yorktown Waterfront, Yorktown VA
  • Description: 8k/5k and parade in the morning followed by Family Activities at 1pm, and from 7-9:15pm the Sounds of Liberty bell ringing ceremony, a concert and Fireworks.
