Foster Care Aware – FREE Community Event

Learn about local foster care and adoption at this FREE community event – this year with a carnival theme!
Foster Care Aware is an annual event designed to shine a light on foster care and provide opportunities to learn more about fostering, adopting from foster care, and/or supporting foster children in our community.
When: Saturday, May 17, 2025 from 10am – 3:30pm
Where: ODU – KAUFMAN MALL, Norfolk VA
Description: Not only are we learning about how to advocate for youth in the foster care system, we’re also going to have a lot of fun!
Fostering is about families helping families, and while the media may tell you all kinds of things about everyone involved in the system, the truth is that foster kids are kids, and they need time and space to play. So this year we are having a full mini-carnival!
- 10am: Childcare & Outdoor Carnival Open!
- 10am – 3pm: Enjoy the following: Bounce house | Obstacle Course | Petting Zoo | Face Painting | Carnival Games | Balloon twisting | And more!
- 3pm: Mini Carnival Closes
- 3:30pm: Childcare Room Closes
There will be workshops and activities for all to learn about foster care and adoption. The entire event is FREE, open to the public and family-friendly. There will be sections focusing on topics designed for:
- Families of Origin
- Current Foster Families
- Adoptive Parents
