African-American Heritage Day Celebration

The annual African-American Heritage Day Celebration is back this year at the Children’s Museum of Virginia! There will be all sorts of family activities including drumming, stories, crafts, and games!

Where: Children’s Museum of Virginia 221 High Street, Portsmouth, VA

When: Saturday, January 19, 2013, activites scheduled from 11am-5pm

Cost: Activities are free with museum admission

Description: According to the Children’s Museum website the schedule is as follows, although subject to change:

  • 11am: Atumpan-The Talking Drums African Dance
  • Noon: Orisirisi African Folklore & Music
  • 12:30pm: Atumpan-The Talking Drums African Dance
  • 1pm: The Legacy of Delta Blues with Blackhat Walters Blues Trio
  • 1:45pm: “Breakin’ Out” featuring Rhythm 360 & Altered Xpressions B-Boys
  • 2:30pm: “The Legacy of Delta Blues” with Blackhat Walters Blues Trio
  • 3:00pm: “Breakin’ Out” featuring Rhythm 360 & Altered Xpressions B-boys
  • 3:30pm: Talton Manning, Saxophonist
  • 4:00pm: Orisirisi African Folklore
  • 4:30pm: Talton Manning, Saxophonist
  • Hampton Roads History Scavenger Hunt- Participate in the Hampton Roads scavenger hunt and find clues about famous athletes, musicians, intellects, and actors that have ties to Hampton Roads African-American history. Prizes awarded for completing the scavenger hunt!
