Virginia Children’s Chorus – Norfolk

An auditioned choir for children ages 6 to 18 in grades 1 through 12. The four choir groups meet during the school year for group choral rehearsals including instruction in sight-reading, rhythms, note reading, diction (including foreign languages), breath support, posture, vocal tone, expression, choral blend, and stage presence. Summer camp program available. Rehearsals are held in Norfolk for all four choirs and also in Virginia Beach for the two younger choirs (approx. 1st to 7th grade). The groups perform throughout Hampton Roads in many concerts both solo and with other performing groups, such as The Bay Youth Orchestras. The older students perform with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and the Virginia Arts Festival. Virginia Children's Chorus is a non-profit arts education organization. Scholarships may be available.

Virginia Cooperative Extension Family and Nutrition Program

The Family Nutrition Program’s mission is to teach limited-resource families and youth how to make healthier food choices and become better managers of available food resources for optimal health and growth. Our programs focus on basic nutrition, physical activity, safe food handling, and thrifty food shopping. -Eating Smart, Being Active (ESBA) is the primary curriculum for adult programs that we use throughout the state. ESBA lessons encourage adults to make healthy nutrition and lifestyle choices. The program is discussion-based, includes hands-on activities like cooking and meal planning, and offers practical advice for making healthy behavior changes. -In the Kitchen is designed to help caregivers of children ages 12 and under with basic cooking skills, including knife safety, food safety, recipe reading, and simple cooking techniques. The Family Nutrition Program is offered through Virginia Cooperative Extension, an educational outreach partnership between Virginia Tech and Virginia State University.

Virginia Scholars Academy

As a homeschool co-op, we have parent and teacher involvement in education. We aim to provide a biblically-based educational environment and to help parents raise a healthy and maturing love for Jesus in their children. The program is a 51% parent and 49% teacher-led program as a homeschool co-op. This keeps the program in the homeschool category and is therefore NOT a private school. There is in-class teaching and independent work that the student is responsible for. A combination of teacher and parent involvement in each student’s education is needed for the student’s success.

Virginia Space Coast Scholars

Virginia Space Coast Scholars is a FREE program for high school sophomores that focuses on STEM concepts central to NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility and the Mid- Atlantic Regional Spaceport. The program includes an online course with five modules running from November to March. Top students may be invited to a seven-day residential academy at NASA Wallops on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, where they engage with NASA professionals and explore current missions.
