The Pigeon Comes to Portsmouth: A Mo Willems Exhibit is open now through May 5, 2024 at The Children’s Museum of Virginia in Portsmouth, Virginia!
Kids and parents who love Mo Willems’ picture books – and that’s most of them! – are in for a treat at The Children’s Museum of Virginia in Portsmouth. It’s a new interactive exhibit called “The Pigeon Comes to Portsmouth: A Mo Willems Exhibit.” Get tickets at ChildrenMuseumVirginia.com!
The pigeon in question is the lead character from Mr. Willems’ popular and award-winning 2003 picture book, “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus.”
This wily city bird is showcased in the exhibit, along with more beloved characters from his other classic picture books, including Knuffle Bunny, Elephant & Piggie, the Duckling, Leonardo the Terrible Monster, and Wilbur, the Naked Mole Rat.
As children are drawn in (pun intended!) to this colorful, hands-on exhibit, they’re invited to:
Try out art techniques that Mo uses for his own books.
Put on a wearable bus and take a drive around the exhibit!
Make Elephant and Piggie dance with old-time animation.
Launch foam hot dogs at The Pigeon and play the plinko game to give The Duckling a cookie.
Stack lightweight blocks to create their own terrible monster or funny friend.
Dress up Naked Mole Rat for a one-of-a-kind fashion show, and more!
The exhibit is included with regular admission at The Children’s Museum of Virginia, and parents will definitely want to make a day of it!
From the grocery store to awesome model train displays to daily shows at the Beazley Planetarium (also included with admission), kids will have a blast and never run out of fun stuff to see, do and learn.
Don’t wait, though. This is a traveling exhibit, and after May 5, The Pigeon is leaving town. Get tickets at ChildrenMuseumVirginia.com!
