Really Awesome People Swimming (RAPS) Program!

The RAPS – Really Awesome People Swimming – Program, is designed to provide low-cost Swim Lessons to children in Hampton Roads.

Really Awesome People Swimming has openings for the 2024 program that are open to any minority and/or children/adults on free/reduced lunch between the ages of 5 – 99.

Where: Timberlake Pool, 933 Windsor Oaks Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA.

When: The classes are held from 9:00 – 10:30 am each day for one (1) week. The program is for the weeks of July 8, & July 15, 2024. Transportation is not provided.

Cost: There is a $3 fee for this program, if this fee is a financial hardship please ask about a fee waiver.

About the Program: The Really Awesome People Swimming program (RAPS™) began in 2007 because of the need for ALL children to be able to learn to swim regardless of their economic status. The program teaches children and adults how to swim and how to be safe in, on, and around the water.

Children between the ages of 5 and 19 have the highest drowning rates in the country. The drowning rates for minorities are even more staggering, four times higher than any other population! This program has been extremely successful, teaching 2875 children and adults since its inception.

The program takes participants on a first come, first served basis. The lessons are held at the Timberlake Pool in Virginia Beach.
