Historical Event: A Post Such As Portsmouth

Historical fun in Portsmouth this weekend! A Post Such As Portsmouth is a re-enactment designed to entertain and educate the public of the occupation of Portsmouth, Virginia by the British forces in 1781.

Where: High Street Corridor, 206 High Street, Portsmouth, VA

When: Saturday, March 7, 2026 from 9am-4pm and Sunday, March 8, 2026 from 10am-3pm.

Cost: Free and open to all

Description: Ready for a day of Revolutionary fun? Come enjoy historical reenactments in Olde Towne Portsmouth.

It’s 1781 and the Revolutionary War is raging. British forces, led by turncoat General Benedict Arnold, are occupying Portsmouth. Reenactors interact with each other and the public through multiple short skits, vignettes and demonstrations throughout the day. You can even dress up in period costume and join in if you want!
9 a.m. – “Occupation”
10 a.m.-4 p.m. – Reenactment Area Open to Public
4 p.m. – “Evacuation”
