Cost: Free, all parking fees are waived on the 28th only
Description: This year marks the 26th anniversary of National Public Lands Day and Virginia State Parks will celebrate Public Lands Day on, September 28, 2019. There will be a special promotion on Sept 28 – a fee-free day – all parking fees waived.

Local parks have the following activities planned:
False Cape – Paddle Back Bay from 9am-12pm
Join park staff for an adventurous paddle along Back Bay, from Barbour Hill to False Cape Landing. This trip is a 2-mile paddle, through the scenic southern watershed. All Kayaking equipment is provided. Reservations are required. For more information call the park at 757-426-7128.
First Landing – National Public Lands Day & International Coastal Clean-Up from 9am-12pm
First Landing is participating in the International Coastal Clean-Up with beach clean up. Join the world’s largest volunteer effort for ocean health. What better way to serve your community than by keeping the waterways free of trash? Nearly nine million volunteers from 152 countries and locations have cleaned 145 million pounds of trash from the shores of lakes, streams, rivers, and the ocean on just one day each year. If you would like to participate in this event you must pre-register by emailing your name and the number of participants you are planning to bring to Erin.McManama@dcr.virginia.gov
York River Park – National Public Lands Day from 10am-4pm
Virginia’s public lands are a resource for the enjoyment of all citizens and visitors. Activities for the day will include Trails & Shoreline Clean-Up 10 a.m. to noon Pink Flamingo Hike 1 to 3 p.m. Paddle thru the Past 4 to 6 p.m. There will be free parking for this event.
