1. Barry Art Museum (Norfolk)
I’m so excited to be guest posting here at MyActiveChild to share about a new free museum that we recently discovered! The Barry Art Museum is located on the ODU campus is open now with social distancing. The museum is located at 1075 W 43rd Street in Norfolk, next to McDonald’s. Free two-hour parking is located in the 43rd street garage. Look for the designated spots.
The museum is built from the collection of the Barry family and focuses mostly on glass art. Their hours are weekends 12-5 and Tues-Thurs 11-5.Â

2. Jerrassic Park (Virginia Beach)
This local freebie is one of our favorites! Perfect for dinosaur lovers, Jerrassic Park is located at the entrance of the Military Aviation Museum on Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach. Open daily from 9-5 on the left side of the driveway when you turn in. A tip, print out the scavenger hunt from the Aviation Museum’s website before going and identify all of the dinosaurs. Children under 6 will be awarded a prize. If you are over six, you can still grab a prize for a $1.00 fee.

3. Bluebird Gap Farm (Hampton)

This is one of our absolute favorite places in the city, Bluebird Gap Farm. If you’ve never been, it is great year-round, and we love that it is always free! Located at 60 Pine Chapel Rd, Hampton, VA 23669. The farm is open daily from 9-5. Bring a lunch with you and relax in the gardens or grab an ice cream from the snack stand. (Open seasonally.) Be sure to bring a few quarters to buy animal feed so that the kids can feed the animals!

4. Sandy Bottom Nature Park (Hampton)
I often talk about the benefits of getting outside for some fresh air, and today I’m sharing one of our favorite places to do it. Located at 1255 Big Bethel Rd, Hampton VA 23666, Sandy Bottom Nature Park is free and full of trails to try. Open from 9:00-4:30 daily it is the perfect place to observe wildlife and forget that we live in a city surrounded by people. Boat rentals and camping sights are available seasonally.
