Description: This comic opera is Donizetti’s most performed opera worldwide with sparkling effervescent tunes, emotional melodies and the quack medicine man selling his love potion. The characters develop before our very eyes in a most touching love story containing one of the most famous tenor arias of all time “Una furtiva lagrima.”

Directed by Kyle Lang (Lucia di Lammermoor, 2018) returning for his third production with Virginia Opera and Cecilia Violetta López (unforgettable in La Traviata, 2015) returns to sing another of Italian opera’s most appealing heroines, Adina. Recent winner of the 2018 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, tenor Carlos Enrique Santelli makes his VO mainstage debut appearing as Nemorino, and bass-baritone Matthew Burns, returning for his sixth production at Virginia Opera, complements the cast as Dulcamara.

Bonus Info: Join Dr. Glenn Winters for his “Opera Up Close” pre-curtain talk forty-five minutes before each performance for his informative and entertaining insights on each production.
