CANCELLED- Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge Celebrates 75 Years!

PLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO IMPENDING WEATHER!

Via Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge: Due to Tropical Storm Andrea, the outdoor activities for the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge 75th Anniversary event have been cancelled. The public 75th Anniversary ceremony will instead be held at the Refuge Administrative Headquarters, 1324 Sandbridge Road, on this Saturday, June 8, at 9:00 a.m.

The Refuge entrance fee is being waived for this special day and, weather-permitting, a free Tram tour is being offered, also on Saturday, June 8, at 1:30 p.m. by reservation. Please call 757-301-7329 x 152 to reserve a seat.

Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge is celebrating their 75th anniversary on Saturday, June 8, 2013 with lots of outdoor fun for the entire family including:
7:30am – Early morning bird walk
9:00am – Opening ceremony (with proclamation by Mayor Sessoms and Barbara Henley)
9:30am – WALK FOR WILDLIFE (a walk through the decades of refuge history, the first 75 to complete the walk receive a prize)
Kayaking and kayak fishing trips
Surf-fishing clinic
Duck Stamp Art Display
Partner stations with live animals
11:00am – LIVE sea turtle release
1:30pm – Blue Goose Tram Tour (free, by reservation)

Where: Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge 4005 Sandpiper Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456

When: June 8, 2013 from 9am-12pm

Cost: FREE!
