LEARNING ALTERNATIVES IN HAMPTON ROADS – Fall 2020
 
 
Description: Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula is providing a safe place for kids to complete their schoolwork, access the internet, and participate in programs and activities while being supervised by our trained professional staff. Six Clubs are set to open on September 8, 2020 for the 2020 school year. The hours of operations for our Clubs are 7:30am to 6pm, Monday – Friday. Registration will begin on August 24th.
Grade/Age: Ages 6-12
 
Description: Distance Learning at ICC is a ministry whose mission is to provide families of Hampton Roads a safe place for students to complete their distance/virtual learning schooling while parents and guardians are at work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Program Details Supervision and technical support provided every school day from 8 am – 4 pm. Individual learning space and WiFi available In case of inclement weather, the program will follow VBPS for delays/closings.
Grade/Age: Grades K-5 students – 6 hours max/day Grades 6-12 students – 8 hours max/day
 
Educational Coaches (Chesapeake)
Description: Educational Coaches is offering families a small-group, face-to-face academic support program for students enrolled in online and hybrid learning programs. We have other opportunities for support, as well, in other locations. EC1 in Chesapeake, offers on-line high school and EC2 in Chesapeake, offers private homeschool. All locations offer private tutoring, one-on-one with a licensed, certified teacher. 
 
Description: The Virginia Living Museum is offering a safe learning space in a small group setting for grades K-5 in week long learning pods from September 21 through November 20, 2020. Weeks will alternate between NNPS/YCSD and HCS/WJCC to accommodate virtual meet up days. 
 
Description: Adult supervision is needed for safety, gentle reminders to keep them on task, educational support and many others reasons. We have 26 pc’s connected to high speed internet and wifi capabilty for those who choose to bring their own laptops. WE ARE ONLY TAKING 20 FULL WEEK SPOTS. There will be 5 part-time spots.  All learning stations will be 6ft-9ft apart for proper social distancing. Our building capacity at 50% is currently 75. We will not even be close to half of that so spacing will not be an issue.

Description: Providing an alternative to staying at home for ages 8-14. Program will assist in Virtual Learning, Support Available, Meals Served. Before/After care available.
 
Montessori Micro-Pod (Hampton Roads)
Description: A small, fixed group of families who share similar Covid precautions coming together to form an educational bubble.  Led by an experienced leader in the field of Montessori education, students attend lessons and collaborate with peers in-person.  Screen-time is minimized, with a curriculum used in private Montessori education adapted to meet pod-learning limitations.  This is a great alternative for children who struggled with virtual instruction in spring, or families who are not satisfied with the safety precautions offered at their currently enrolled school.  Ideal student age range for this bubble is 8-15 years.
 
Description: Our Digital Learning Camp is the PERFECT solution for parents worried about sending their kids back to school. We offer a safe and healthy alternative with daily assistance, martial arts fitness classes & limited camp numbers. *ALL Campers MUST be 5 yrs. or older and registered for online/digital learning through Virginia Beach School District.
 
Oh So Crafty: Virtual Learning Assistance Center (Virginia Beach)
Description: This space is intended as a drop-off space for working parents to bring their children, where they will be supervised while doing their Virtual Learning.

Power Up at Code Ninjas (Virginia Beach)
Description: Power Up provides a safe space for kids to boost their learning during the day in a fun and educational environment. Code Ninjas staff and senseis will maintain a supportive, distraction-free environment and keep students on track as they complete their school’s virtual lessons. With limited enrollment and a comprehensive Phase 3 safety and cleaning policy, Power Up at Code Ninjas Virginia Beach will offer parents the freedom to focus on the workday along with the peace of mind that their kids are safe to focus on the school day. It’s perfect for moms and dads who don’t have the time or ability to personally keep their kids productive during the daytime.

Savior Martial Arts (Virginia Beach)
Description: LIVE, in-person, licensed teachers and career educators will keep kids on track with their school’s virtual learning curriculum. A variety of changing activities include: martial arts, roller skating, youth ministry games, dynamic physical education, arts & crafts in a Christian environment.

Suffolk Parks and Recreation (Suffolk)
Description: Suffolk Parks & Recreation is pleased to announce the opening of a limited full-day camp program. During the Suffolk Public School’s virtual 1st nine (9) weeks reporting period, the Suffolk Parks & Recreation Kid Zone program will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday at the King’s Fork Recreation Center, located at Kings Fork Middle School, 350 Kings Fork Road.

Sylvan Learning Center School Support (Chesapeake, Suffolk, Newport News/Yorktown and Virginia Beach)
Description: School Support at Sylvan will provide In-person support during your child’s virtual school days with a dedicated learning environment to help them stay focus and engaged.  Sylvan will have a team of coaches to provide support with classwork and homework.  School Support at Sylvan will also provide structured educational activities and extra skill practice when needed.  Sylvan is the leading provider in tutoring services and we think our new school support program will offer our students and families the guidance and assistance they need to make it through this new yet different school year ahead! Triple R Ranch’s Base Camp Learning Center (Chesapeake)
Triple R Ranch’s Base Camp Learning Center is designed to accommodate your child’s virtual learning, outdoor activities, and social development. Triple R Ranch incorporates environmental learning, STEM activities, and critical thinking activities to help children (2nd – 8th grade) better understand problem-solving. At the heart of all we do, Triple R is committed to sharing the Gospel of Jesus with all our programs and cultivating an atmosphere where children can come to know their creator God.
Age/Grade: 2nd-8th grade
 
Description: With the school year looking so different this year, many families are seeking a fun and safe environment for their children. The Field House is offering daily camps to assist with virtual learning initiatives and encourage socialization and physical activity that is critical to the health of children. Each week will offer two themes, sports and enrichment/activity, pick your preferred theme at registration, and mix it up week-to-week. Our team will provide access for virtual learning time, and incorporate sports, art, science experiments, and more daily. Your child will have the opportunity to meet new friends while you focus on work. We’re here to help local families during these stressful times.
Grade/Age: Ages 6 – 12. Groups will be divided based on age and school schedule. Classroom ratios will be put in place to uphold and abide by government mandates

Description: This temporary child care program is designed to provide a safe location for Kindergarten – 5th-grade students to access their home schools’ virtual learning instruction while their parents are working. Our staff will assist students with logging into their assignments and supervise the program area during virtual instruction hours. During times virtual instruction does not occur, students will participate in recreational age-appropriate activities and games. 
Grade/Age: K-5th Grade

Weekday Warrior Camp (Serving Norfolk, VB and Chesapeake)    
Description: Providing SAFE Social Distance: With safe social communication that every child needs being out of school. REMOTE Learning Stations: Children will get help with their schoolwork. HIGH-SPEED Internet: We have the fastest speed commercially available. FUN Social Distancing Physical Activities: Motivating and always in a fun learning environment.
Grade/Age: Middle School Students Ages 10-14. 

Description: The Y will tailor each program to the school district it serves, supplementing the school’s curriculum accordingly. WiFi will be available, and children will need to bring their own iPad/tablet/laptop and headphones to participate in virtual learning. YMCA academic coaches will work to ensure that children complete assignments on time.
