The Family Nutrition Program’s mission is to teach limited-resource families and youth how to make healthier food choices and become better managers of available food resources for optimal health and growth. Our programs focus on basic nutrition, physical activity, safe food handling, and thrifty food shopping. -Eating Smart, Being Active (ESBA) is the primary curriculum for adult programs that we use throughout the state. ESBA lessons encourage adults to make healthy nutrition and lifestyle choices. The program is discussion-based, includes hands-on activities like cooking and meal planning, and offers practical advice for making healthy behavior changes. -In the Kitchen is designed to help caregivers of children ages 12 and under with basic cooking skills, including knife safety, food safety, recipe reading, and simple cooking techniques. The Family Nutrition Program is offered through Virginia Cooperative Extension, an educational outreach partnership between Virginia Tech and Virginia State University.

As a homeschool co-op, we have parent and teacher involvement in education. We aim to provide a biblically-based educational environment and to help parents raise a healthy and maturing love for Jesus in their children. The program is a 51% parent and 49% teacher-led program as a homeschool co-op. This keeps the program in the homeschool category and is therefore NOT a private school. There is in-class teaching and independent work that the student is responsible for. A combination of teacher and parent involvement in each student’s education is needed for the student’s success.

Virginia Space Flight Academy provides Six Co-Ed Residential Camps for ages 11-16

The Virginia Earth System Science Scholars (VESSS) program is an interactive online science, technology, engineering, and mathematics learning experience for Virginia high school juniors and seniors, highlighted by a seven-day residential summer academy at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. Students selected to participate in the program are immersed in NASA-related research, focusing on the Earth’s responses to changes in climate, weather, and natural hazards, through interaction with scientists, engineers, and technologists.

From school visits and spaceport tours, to workforce development and internships- VA Space offer a variety of STEM opportunities at VSA for anyone looking to learn more about the work they do. Virginia Spaceport Authority hosts a job shadowing day and internship opportunities at the World Trade Center in Norfolk for high school students. Not able to make it out to our facilities? Virginia Stage offers Educational Matinees, In-School Tours, Workshops, Residencies, Stagedoor and Summer Camp Programs. They also hold family friendly performances throughout the year.

The Virginia Symphony Orchestra performs in multiple venues throughout the Hampton Roads area, and provides education and concerts to countless students and patrons each year. Concerts for all ages take place throughout the year including free community concerts, and concerts focusing on introducing children to musical performances, like the popular children's PB&Jam Series that provides a hands-on instrument experience before each show. Some of the local community programs include: School Orchestra Artistic Residency.  Throughout the year, participating schools enjoy regular visits from symphony musicians, master classes, and private concerts. Masterclasses. The VSO’s internationally acclaimed guest soloists provide instruction to young musicians. Masterclasses are also open to the public to listen and learn from our Guest Soloists. Heartstrings. Strengthens character through string instruction for elementary students in underserved schools. The program is open to any child in grades 1-6 who would like to learn music. The Harmony Project fosters relationships between African-American church congregations and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra through performances, educational and social interaction in the church and in the concert hall. Fellows Quartet. Our VSO Fellows every year create their own quartet performances to perform in schools and teach young children about orchestral music, and how it can relate to them even at a young age. Children are introduced to the different and unique ways classical musical instruments are used in everyday films, tv shows, and media. The Young People’s Concert series is an integral part of the Symphony’s education program. Integrated into school music programs through Carnegie Hall’s Link Up Program, the VSO reaches over 25,000 students in fourteen different school districts as well as students in private schools and home school environments.
