The Hampton Roads Chess Association (HRCA) is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to bringing the benefits of chess to people of all ages and abilities across our region. Serving youth and adult competitive chess players, schools, the handicapped, the elderly, veterans, and Scouts. Ongoing chess programs, instruction, groups and Summer camps available.

Weekly nature group for homeschoolers that meets once a week for group activities, nature walks and free play. Activities are geared towards elementary aged children but younger siblings are welcome.

Ages 7 - 18. The Hampton Roads Hurricanes Youth Track and Field Team is an AAU, non-profit organization that practices and participates in track meets locally, regionally, and nationally.

Hampton Roads Urban Agriculture is a non profit organization that is committed to reducing food insecurity within the Hampton Roads area, through urban farming, educational programming, and by creating a sustainable food system. We manage community gardens that are utilized to train veterans and community members in growing their own food or starting a small scale farm.
We offer programs around healthy eating, over 80% of the food grown in the garden is given away to those in need. We are working to launch our Drones in Agriculture program for at-risk youth as a way to expose them to careers in agriculture, STEM, coding, healthy eating as well as our youth farmers market entrepreneurship program. Youth summer programs available.
Hampton Parks, Recreation, and Leisure Services Therapeutic Recreation division provides specialized services for individuals with disabilities in Hampton. Therapeutic recreation activities may include swimming classes, craft classes, trips, camps, adult programs, special events, and varied offerings every season. Our participant-to-staff ratio is appropriate to the needs of the group.
In addition, we provide accommodations upon request for individuals with disabilities in our general recreation programs. The Therapeutic Recreation staff will work with participants, parents/guardians, and staff to help ensure an enjoyable recreation experience. Advanced notice for any requests for accommodations are welcome.
The Hampton University Museum is the oldest museum in the nation dedicated to African-American art and culture. Among the new additions is an exhibit showcasing modern art from Africa that coincided with the Black American Renaissance.

Offered throughout the year. Would you like to visit Bacon’s Castle at night and hear spooky stories from the past? Come for a guided tour through the castle and hear tales of eerie happenings. Join our Haunted History Tours for a rare opportunity to walk through the 360-year-old halls at night. An interpreter will lead you through the house, sharing four centuries of stories. Maybe you will have your own ghostly encounter! Limited tickets will be sold for each tour, and the tour is suitable for children 12 and up. For safety, no children under 6 allowed. Seasonally on select dates in September/October. The Haunted Norfolk Tour themes are of an adult nature, and include references to ghosts, murders, suicides, and other treachery. It is at a parent’s discretion as to whether their child is mature enough for this content. 90 minute walking tour.

Actors take on the roles of creepy clowns, spirits, ghosts, and undead to bring the visitor’s nightmares to life, and the state-of-the-art animatronics and special effects ram up the terror.
