Wicked Woodland Wonders at West Neck Natural Area (Virginia Beach)

Step into the spooky spirit of the season and explore the wooded trails of West Neck Natural Area, home to one of Virginia Beach’s historic treasures—the Buffington House.
Begin your evening by creating your own lantern before setting off on a guided walk through the forest to the haunted historic home. Along the trail, you’ll discover fascinating facts about nocturnal wildlife while enjoying the sights and sounds of the woods after dark.
At the Buffington House, Parks & Recreation staff will welcome you with a cozy campfire, s’mores, haunted history, and fun family-friendly activities. For those feeling especially brave, an optional guided walk to James Whitehurst’s grave offers the chance to hear the legend of the colonial ghost said to make an appearance from time to time.
Your ticket includes:
A lantern craft
Admission to the haunted woodland trail
A s’more by the campfire
Haunted history, stories, and family activities
Optional tours of the Colonial Whitehurst Buffington House and James Whitehurst’s grave
This family-friendly haunted walk is recommended for ages 5 and up. Tickets are sold per person and space is limited, so reserve yours early before this popular event sells out!
Raindate for this event will be the following day: Saturday, October 10.
Those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Families welcome! All participants must be registered and pay activity fee.
Campfire stores begin promptly at 8pm.
