Tidewater Winds Free Concert: America 250: “A Declaration for Independence” (Virginia Beach)

July 13 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

From the opening strains of the Star-Spangled Banner to the soaring close of Sweet Land of Liberty, Tidewater Winds invites you to celebrate the American spirit in music.

This patriotic program weaves together the grandeur of John Williams’ Liberty Fanfare, the march tradition of Sousa’s Riders for the Flag, and the beloved melody of America the Beautiful in Carmen Dragon’s stirring arrangement. Henry Fillmore’s spirited Americans We and Morton Gould’s iconic American Salute pay homage to the rich heritage of American band music, while Joseph Melillo’s America the Brave and Kenny Bierschenk’s arrangement of Let Freedom Ring add a bold contemporary voice to the celebration.

The program takes a storytelling turn with A Colonial Collage, and I Am the American Flag — works that remind us of the ideals and sacrifices woven into our national identity — and Sing We Liberty adds a moment of lyrical reflection. A highlight of the evening, the Hamilton Suite by Lin-Manuel Miranda, brings Broadway’s electrifying retelling of America’s founding to the concert stage.

Join us as we honor the land we love — in melody, in harmony, and in community.
