Military Families Outdoors Community Day (Virginia Beach)

FreeMilitary Families Outdoors is a national initiative that helps military families reduce stress,
build connection, and improve overall wellness through accessible outdoor experiences. The
Military Families Outdoors Community Day brings Blue Star Families’ programming and
Wilderness Inquiry’s Canoemobile to First Landing State Park for a free, family-friendly event
combining guided paddling with hands-on environmental, recreational and creative activities.
Military families will have the opportunity to paddle together in Wilderness Inquiry’s 10-person
canoes while participating in activities designed to help families explore nature, learn about the
local environment and connect.
Activities include:
● Guided paddling with Wilderness Inquiry’s Canoemobile
● Mosaic bird-bath activity led by Vanessa Abbott
● Watershed education with Clean Virginia Waterways
● Fishing activities and games
● Wildlife interpretation and animal pelts
● Reusing plastic toys
● Pollinator and bee-box programming
