Homeschool Family Programs at American Revolution Museum at Yorktown and Jamestown Settlement (Yorktown)

September 5 - September 13

Homeschool students will love discovering the sights and sounds of the 17th and 18th centuries while learning about their nation’s history.

A special ticket offers homeschool families unlimited admission to Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown during Homeschool Program Days.

Throughout Homeschool Family Days, enjoy unlimited Jamestown Settlement admission to view the introductory film “1607: A Nation Takes Root,” permanent exhibition galleries and re-creations of 1607 ships, Paspahegh Town and a 1610-1614 fort. Also enjoy unlimited admission at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown to explore exhibition galleries and re-creations of a Continental Army encampment and Revolution-era farm.

In time for America’s 250th anniversary, a circa-1790 portrait of George Washington by American artist Charles Peale Polk is on permanent exhibit at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown.

The portrait — depicting Washington as commander-in-chief and victor of the Battle of Princeton on January 3, 1777 — is prominently displayed in the Declaration of Independence rotunda.

It joins approximately 500 period objects at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown to tell the full story of the Revolution and the shaping of the nation through the personal stories of ordinary citizens and soldiers in extraordinary times.

Education stations at each museum on select dates allow families to interact with educators as they explore a variety of historical topics as well as critical thinking, primary source analysis and how historians use clues from the past to put together a historical narrative.
