Exhibit: Bread + Puppet Theater: Sculpture in Action at Baron & Ellin Gordon Art Galleries (Norfolk)
September 19 - December 12
Art comes to life at ODU.
“Bread + Puppet Theater: Sculpture in Action” recently opened at the Gordon Art Galleries, bringing more than six decades of puppetry, performance and visual storytelling to campus.
Over six decades, Bread and Puppet Theater and its founders Peter and Elka Schumann have employed a visual language through puppetry to satirize systems of power, call everyday people to action, and honor humanity’s creative place within the sweeping breadth of life. This exhibition features common recurring puppets and characters who have acted in the company’s processions, protests, plays, and pageants since the 1960’s. They are presented in active, vibrant tableaus true to the company’s practice of putting art into action.
Visit the Gordon Art Galleries and experience the exhibition through December 12.
