Celebrating 100 Years of Black History Month Exhibit (Portsmouth)
February 7 - November 1
This special exhibit highlights how African American history has been remembered, commemorated and shared through the years – and why preserving that history is so important. Join us as we explore the origins of Black History Month, along with a broader look at how communities honor the past through meaningful sites, traditions and cultural events – from Emancipation Oak and Juneteenth to the Umoja Festival and beyond.
At a time when Black history faces renewed challenges, this exhibit affirms Portsmouth’s commitment to preserving, sharing and amplifying Black voices – recognizing Black history as a vital and living part of the American story.
