Chesapeake

Chesapeake Schools Preschool Initiative has begun taking applications for the 2025-26 school year.
Program acceptance is determined by the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) eligibility criteria and is FREE for eligible 4yr olds living in Chesapeake.

Hampton

Hampton City School’s PreK has begun taking appointments to register for the 2025-2026 school year. Students must be four years old on or before September 30, 2025 and selected by the eligibility criteria to participate. Parents or legal guardians can call 757-727-1061 to make an appointment.

Isle of Wight

Isle of Wight County School preschool applications are now being accepted for the 2025-2026 school year. To participate, children must be four (4) years old by September 30th, 2025 and live in Isle of Wight County.
Isle of Wight Learning Center Preschool Program is funded through the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI). Eligibility for participation is based on criteria set by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).

Newport News

Newport News Public Schools Preschool is now accepting applications for the 2025-26 school year! Questions? Please call the NNPS Preschool Office at (757) 283-7850 x10247
NNPS Preschool is a state and federally funded program, and all applications will be reviewed based on eligibility criteria and space availability.

Norfolk

Norfolk Public Schools Preschool is now accepting applications for the 2025-26 school year. Your child must be 3 or 4 by September 30 of the school year you are applying to enroll. Questions? Email [email protected] or call 757-628-3944.
Acceptance into the preschool program is determined on eligibility criteria and identified risk factors, not on a first-come, first-serve basis. 

Portsmouth

Portsmouth Public Schools Preschool Program – 2025-26 preschool applications will be accepted by appointment only.
Selection into Portsmouth Public School’s Bright Start Preschool Program is based on the eligibility criteria established by the state of Virginia and Portsmouth Public Schools. 

Suffolk

Suffolk Public Schools Early Start Program is for 4 yr olds living in Suffolk, VA. This program is for children who turn 4 years old by September 30, 2025, and who need an extra year to prepare for success in kindergarten and meet the eligibility criteria.

Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach Public Schools Pre-K programs are now accepting applications for the 2025-26 school year. You may apply anytime between January 22, 2025 and May 30, 2025. Placements are not made on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Pre-K program is funded through both the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) and Title I grants awarded to the school division. VBCPS offers Pre-K in select schools across the division. 

York County

York County School Division’s preschool programs include Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE), the Integrated Preschool Outreach Program (IPOP) – not offered in 2025/26, and the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI). ECSE & VPI are both tuition-free while IPOP is a tuition-required program. Questions? Call 757-898-0308.
