Mardi Gras Celebration!

Celebrate the festivities of Mardi Gras at the Children’s Museum of VA this weekend! There will be jazz, blies, drums, reptiles and pirates! Guests are welcome to wear their purple, green and gold to the event and enjoy crafts and activities to help celebrate the occassion.

Mardi Gras Family Day will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 9am-5pm. More information this event is available HERE. According to the Children’s Museum of VA the entertainment schedule will be:

11 am & 12:30 pm
“Bayou Buddies” with JB’s Rattles- Learn about and even get to touch some of the reptilian wildlife of the Louisiana bayou.

11:15 am & 12:45 pm
“Congo Square” with Atumpan African Dance- Live West African drumming and dance to recreate the sounds sights of New Orleans’ Congo Square.

11 am, 12 Noon, 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm “Preservation Hall” with the 504 Supreme Band- swinging Dixie Land Jazz parade.

12:15 pm & 1:15 pm
“The Pirate Adventures of Jean Lafitte”- the Moody Crew Pirates take visitors on a journey to the Gulf Coast of Louisiana as part of Jean Lafitte’s crew.

2:15 pm & 3:30 pm
“Down on the Delta” with Black Hat Walters & Co.- Catch a case of the Blues with Black Hat Walters and his trio of Blues musician as they sing and play the music that became the foundation for today’s Hip-Hop culture.
