Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead):  A joyful Mexican tradition that celebrates and honors loved ones who have passed away. It is believed that during these days – usually November 1st and 2nd – the spirits of loved ones return to visit and celebrate with the living.

Families create ofrendas (altars) decorated with photos, candles, marigolds, and favorite foods to celebrate and honor family members who have passed away.

You may see sugar skulls, papel picado (colorful paper banners), and face painting as part of the festivities. This annual holiday focuses on the love and family connections that live on, even after someone is no longer with us. Read more about Dia de los Muertos and family traditions here.
