This year, VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads is celebrating its 37th Annual Hampton Roads Volunteer Achievement Awards. This award ceremony helps us honor those who go above and beyond the call of duty to give back to the community that they live in. Award categories are: individual youth, adult & military; community, military & youth groupfamily, religious organization and nonprofit volunteer group.

Does your child like to spend the weekend volunteering? Does he or she participate in organizations like the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts of America? Do you volunteer as a family? Help us honor the outstanding children of Hampton Roads by nominating them for the 2012 Hampton Roads Volunteer Achievement Awards!

The following criteria are applied by judges reviewing the applications:

• Impact — how do the volunteer’s actions make a difference?

• Initiative — what motivates the volunteer to serve and are the actions innovative?

• Community need — are real community needs being met?

• Length of service — how long has the nominee volunteered for the activities outlined in the nomination?

Applications are available HERE, along with complete details on eligibility and selection criteria. Winners will be notified in writing in early February and will receive their award at the ceremony on April 25, 2012 at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott. The deadline for nominations is Friday, January 27, 2012.
