Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) is the regional public transportation agency serving the communities of Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach. HRT provides affordable transit options designed to connect families to jobs, education, healthcare, and recreation.
HRT offers a number of public transit services, including bus routes in all six cities, the Tide Light Rail in Downtown Norfolk, the Elizabeth River Ferry between Downtown Norfolk and Olde Towne Portsmouth, seasonal VB Wave trolley service at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, Paratransit in all six cities, the free Base Express at Naval Station Norfolk, and OnDemand Rideshare in multiple cities.
HRT offers FREE rides to all youth age 17 and under with a paid adult and provides the Student Freedom Pass to youth ages 13 to 17 with free, unlimited access to all transit services, allowing them to ride independently. This free pass gives students an opportunity to get to school, extracurricular activities, and after school jobs.
Regular adult fare for daily unlimited riding (check link for pricing) and discounted fare is available to those who qualify. HRT also provides four Free Fare days per year for all riders, on all modes. Free Fare days include Transit Equity Day in February, Earth Day in April, Juneteenth in June, and Election Day in November.
With so many options, families are able connect to nearby restaurants, attractions, hotels, and other destinations. Bicycle storage also offers a convenient way to enhance the recreation experience, with racks on all buses, light rail trains, and ferries.

Hampton Roads Urban Agriculture is a non profit organization that is committed to reducing food insecurity within the Hampton Roads area, through urban farming, educational programming, and by creating a sustainable food system. We manage community gardens that are utilized to train veterans and community members in growing their own food or starting a small scale farm.
We offer programs around healthy eating, over 80% of the food grown in the garden is given away to those in need. We are working to launch our Drones in Agriculture program for at-risk youth as a way to expose them to careers in agriculture, STEM, coding, healthy eating as well as our youth farmers market entrepreneurship program. Hampton Parks, Recreation, and Leisure Services Therapeutic Recreation division provides specialized services for individuals with disabilities in Hampton. Therapeutic recreation activities may include craft classes, trips, camps, adult programs, special events, and varied offerings every season. Our participant-to-staff ratio is appropriate to the needs of the group.
In addition, we provide accommodations upon request for individuals with disabilities in our general recreation programs. The Therapeutic Recreation staff will work with participants, parents/guardians, and staff to help ensure an enjoyable recreation experience. Advanced notice for any requests for accommodations are welcome.

This state-of-the-art aquatics center provides recreational opportunities for the community with a 50-meter pool, a 25-yard pool and an outdoor splash park. This facility serves two purposes: as a community fitness and wellness center with swimming lessons and as a generator of youth sports travel. The complex offers water safety and first learn-to-swim classes to all Hampton second-grade students. Spring and summer camps available.

Learn how to how to cut, grind and arrange glass for fusing. Most classes are beginner; however we do offer intermediate and advance level classes or come in with your own design and we will help you create that one-of-a-kind piece. Ages range from 6 to adult depending on project. Our classes that involve scoring and breaking of glass, we ask that children be at least 12 years of age and accompanied by an adult. Our Lil Chips classes are great for ages 6 and up.
