Although infants and toddlers learn and grow at their own pace, early childhood development often follows predictable patterns. Skills such as taking a first step, smiling for the first time, and waving “bye-bye” are called developmental milestones. Children reach milestones in how they play, learn, speak, act and move (crawling, walking, etc.)
For any number of reasons, many young children need a little extra help to reach certain developmental milestones. And since infants and toddlers grow and learn so quickly, it’s important to get that extra help as early as possible if you or your child’s doctor have any concerns about your child’s development. Early identification and intervention can make a difference!
The Infant & Toddler Connection of Virginia provides supports and services for infants and toddlers, and their families so that families can help their children learn during everyday activities and routines. These supports take place in the child’s natural environment, such as their home, daycare, or even the local library.
If you are concerned about your child’s development, the first step is to contact the Infant & Toddler Connection in your area. They will schedule an intake and evaluation to determine if your child is eligible for services. This is provided at no cost to families.
If your child is eligible, we will work with you to identify the goals that you have for your child and what services we will provide to help you help your child reach those goals. This will be outlined in your family’s Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP). Developing the plan is also provided at no cost. Your family will be assigned a Service Coordinator, at no cost to you, to help you navigate through the program.

At Peaceful Waters, we believe every family deserves a safe space to heal, grow, and thrive. We offer professional counseling and wellness services designed to support both children and adults through life’s challenges. Our licensed counselors specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, parenting support, and more, with options for individual, couples, and family counseling.
In addition to counseling, we provide restorative wellness services to help the whole family recharge — including therapeutic massage, sports massage for teens, prenatal & postpartum massage, cryotherapy, and Alpha-Stim sessions. These services are designed to reduce stress, support recovery, and promote overall well-being. Parents often come to us for their own care, but we also welcome children and teens who may benefit from both counseling and specialized massage in a nurturing, family-friendly environment.
Peaceful Waters is more than a counseling center — it’s a community resource where families can find balance, encouragement, and practical support. Whether you’re seeking guidance for your child, looking to strengthen your relationships, or just needing a moment of rest and renewal, we’re here to help you feel whole again.
