Roots for A STEM offers STEM camps for children in Hampton Roads that inspire a passion for science, technology, engineering and math using hands-on lessons designed to excite and demystify the mind.

Norfolk location serves children from Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Newport News, and Hampton.

Grades K-8th. Kindergarten - 2nd grades are in traditional single-grade classrooms, grades 3-8 are taught in multilevel classrooms with two grades in one room.

Learn how to sail with our certified instructors. Several different opportunities are available including The Sail Nauticus First Sail experience - an introduction to sailing in a casual setting. Up to three students and an instructor will learn how to harness the winds and steer the boat on a course.

The Send It Climbing Gym has top rope and lead climbing walls up to 43 feet tall. The bouldering area has everything from slab to vertical to overhanging angles. With over 10,500 square feet of climbing, there’s something for everyone. Birthday parties and summer camps are available.

Open to all Norfolk students, ages 8-12. There are 5 weeks of camp programming offered including a sports camp and day camp. Free!

Siren City Pipe Band Youth Piping & Drumming instills the values of teamwork, leadership, and musicianship in the next generation of pipers and drummers in Hampton Roads. Students 8 to 18 will have the opportunity to go from zero to pipe band, learning either the bagpipes or Scottish-style snare drum from Siren City Pipe Band members.

Slover Library carries over 130,000 books and other items available to borrow, hosts classes and events from genealogy to children’s programs, and provides access to leading-edge technology. Some of the different spaces you will find at Slover include:

Playscape- a play area for children ages 0-2 filled with developmentally appropriate play equipment, KidZone for youth ages 3-6, Early literacy gaming computers and tablets, Children’s Art Studio, Children’s Programs, Reading Areas, Sound Studio, Study Rooms, Design Studio, Production Studio, Teen Zone — A casual environment with gaming, computers, and study rooms, YOUmedia Lab, Gaming Lounge, and Maker Studio in Selden Market.

Småland is an indoor play spot for kids, indoors at IKEA. Currently open for play on weekends only. Be sure to check the link for updates before heading over to play!

Children may play in Småland for a 30-minute period. This period may differ on some days in some locations. Please check the link for the local IKEA store page for details. If you are an IKEA Family Member, your child can stay in the play area for an additional 30 minutes.
