YVCHR Volunteer Project – PORT Winter Shelter Intake at St Stephen’s Episcopal Church (Newport News)

Youth will help at the intake table checking in the guests of the PORT emergency winter shelter for the unhoused of Hampton Roads at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Youth many also help with storing guests bags for the evening.
Age Requirement: Volunteers must be at least 14 yrs old to volunteer.
Special Considerations: Youth will need to be in comfortable modest clothing and closed toe athletic shoes as we will be standing and moving around the entire evening.
Organization being served: LINK of Hampton Roads. PORT is an emergency winter shelter with the intent to house the homeless on the coldest nights of the year, ensuring no one dies on the streets. Starting in 1991 – now in its 34th year, PORT serves upwards of 120 people per night for a total of 20 weeks during the winter.
