Virtual Presentation with Macarthur Memorial: Empire of Ashes: Truman, Hirohito, and the Descent into Total War (Online)

MacArthur Memorial will present a free virtual lecture by James M. Scott, author of Empire of Ashes: Truman, Hirohito, and the Descent into Total War. A virtual Q&A will follow.

Scott will discuss the final months of the Pacific War, including firsthand accounts from previously unheard survivors of the atomic bombings, internal debates within the Manhattan Project, and the political maneuvering between President Truman and Emperor Hirohito that culminated in unprecedented violence and ultimately Japan’s surrender.
