Powerboats at the Park: APBA Racing Regatta (Portsmouth)

The Portsmouth Powerboat Association is excited to bring Vintage and Historic powerboating event to Portsmouth Virginia City Park in 2025. This was a premier boating event in the past and interest has demanded the rebirth of vintage boating in the southeast of Virginia.
The public is invited to this free and exciting event on August 9th and 10th. The park will open to the public and there will be food trucks, vintage boats on display, demonstrations on the water of these exciting original, restored or replaced race boats. These boats date back to the 50’s and 60’s with engines from the vintage era.
Many classes of boats will be there with sizes ranging from 12’ to 20’ and engines from 50 hp to 150hp. The historic racecourse will allow the boats to run wide open, obtaining speeds of the former competitive days.
The Vintage boats will come alive starting at 9:00 am on Saturday, August 9th and will run to about 4:00 pm. On Sunday, the Vintage boats will be running from 10:00 until about 3:00. There will be a lunch break when the public is invited into the pit area to meet with the drivers and see up close the historic boats and motors. Maybe if you’re lucky, a child might be able to sit in the cockpit and experience the thrill. Autographs, pictures and conversations with the drivers will be exciting for the public!
Food, drink, shirts and other memorabilia will be available for sale. There is no admission charge for the public and The Portsmouth City Park offers exceptional viewing of the boats as they run the race course. Parking is also free and there is plenty of room to bring a chair and enjoy a spectacular day at the park.
