November Stargazing at the Virginia Living Museum Featuring CNU Gravitational Waves (Newport News)

November 8, 2025 @ 5:00 pm - 11:30 pm

Event opens at 5:00 pm • Telescopes after sunset • Event ends by 11:30 pm

When the sun goes down, the night sky lights up at the Virginia Living Museum. Join us after hours for free outdoor stargazing (weather permitting) and an unforgettable lineup of Planetarium and Laser shows. Whether you’re here to explore the constellations or rock out to a sky-synced soundtrack, there’s something for everyone.

CNU Gravitational Wave Demos
The CNU Gravitational Waves research group will join us for hands-on science demos in the WEC lobby (where the planetarium is located) from 5 to 8:30pm, and will present a gravitational waves science show in Classrooms 3&4 at 6:30pm. Both are FREE and open to all!

Stargazing
As the sky darkens, our astronomy team will guide you through Virginia’s night sky. Look for planets, star clusters, and seasonal constellations from our observation areas.

Telescopes: Abbitt Observatory or Conservation Garden, depending on the weather forecast.

Observing is free and open to all event attendees.

Entry & Locations:
Main Entrance open for check-in. Activities take place in the Wason Education Center Lobby, Abbitt Planetarium, Conservation Garden, and Abbitt Observatory. The Café may be used as a pass-through as needed.

Shows in the Abbitt Planetarium
Please note: Planetarium and Laser shows require advance registration and a paid ticket.

6:00 pm – Virginia Skies (planetarium program): A live guided tour of the current evening sky with a staff astronomer.
