Mary Helen Thomas Day at Williams Farm Recreation Center (Virginia Beach)
June 7 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm
Splash into a safe summer the Mary Helen Thomas way! Mary Helen Thomas was a community leader who promoted water safety and learn-to-swim programs in the Hampton Roads area. An inspiration and hero, she broke down racial barriers in the 1960s. The Mary Helen Thomas Water Safety Council is honoring her memory by offering a free learn to swim day for youth ages 4 – 12. Swim lesson scholarships and other prizes will be raffled off at each site.
Sign up for a free water safety lesson before June 1, 2026. The event is free and open to the public. Swim suits are required for participation. Membership not required for event. However, we kindly request that you have a membership or day pass if you plan to continue enjoying our facilities after the event.
